Secondary reproductive strategies in Pacific black brant (Branta bernicla nigricans) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Thesis (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 1999Waterfowl are known to use secondary reproductive strategies, both extra-pair copulations and intraspecific brood parasitism, to increase fitness. We used five polymorphic microsatellite loci to determine

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Engagement and control of synchroniser mechanisms in dual clutch transmissions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The study of synchroniser engagements in dual clutch transmissions is undertaken in this paper, identifying limitations to the repeatability of actuation, demonstrating one popular solution for positive synchroniser control and offering an alternate ...

Interaction of MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode With KF‐AlF3‐Al2O3 at 800°C During Laboratory Scale Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A carbon‐free, as‐sintered MgO–steel cermet anode, fabricated via cold isostatic pressing using MgO–C refractory recyclate, was evaluated under laboratory‐scale K‐cryolite electrolysis at 800°C. Operation at this reduced temperature, combined with the electrolyte's limited electrical conductivity, led to an increase in cell voltage.

Permeability of Sinter Bronze Friction Material for Wet Clutches

open access: yesTribology Transactions, 2008
The characteristics of wet clutches are of great importance for the overall behavior of the drive trains of many modern vehicles. It is considered that the clutch characteristic is affected by the permeability of the friction material. The permeability is considered to influence both the time of engagement and the temperature in the clutch due to the ...

Toward Low‐Consumable Anodes: Process Simulation and Prospective Life Cycle Assessment of NiFe2O4‐NiO‐Ni‐Cu vs. Prebaked Anodes for Aluminum Production with use of Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐consumable nickel ferrite‐based anodes for the Hall–Héroult process are compared with conventional prebaked carbon anodes using thermodynamic simulation and prospective life cycle assessment under contrasting future electricity system pathways from 2025 to 2050.

Study on the Analysis and Optimization of Starting Control Strategy of Wet Dual Clutch Transmission

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2020
Through building the dynamics model of the wet dual clutch transmission, and analyzing the starting control strategy, a method of dynamically adjusting the starting target speed is proposed.
