Mechanochemical Nitrous Oxide Decomposition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 2, 8 January 2026.
Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential of 310. A novel mechanochemical strategy is presented for decomposing N2O into harmless nitrogen and oxygen, achieving a rapid decomposition rate of 1761.3 mL h−1 and nearly complete N2O conversion of 99.98% at 42 °C.

Ink Processing and its Influence on Particle Size Distribution, Ionomer Requirements and Electrode Properties in Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell and Electrolyzer Catalyst Coated Membranes

open access: yesEnergy Technology, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study examines how milling time influences catalyst ink properties for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells and electrolyzers. Longer milling reduces particle size and pore diameter, but excessive milling causes cracks due to ionomer depletion. An optimum milling duration was identified.

Clays for Low‐Carbon Cements: Overview, Progress, and Challenges

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 1, January 2026.
This review provides a critical overview of recent developments of activated clays to function as artificial pozzolans. After a thorough description of the clays that yield good pozzolanic performances, selected examples are given on thermal and mechanical activations. Chiefly, general correlations are extracted from reported data despite its scattered

Field Observations of Decreasing Rock Fracturing Rates Over Geologic Time

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Rock fracturing regulates the topography, carbon cycle, geologic hazards, and infrastructure degradation of the Earth. Yet, there remains a paucity of constraints on long‐term fracturing behavior. Here we use field measurements of 2221 clasts across a range of environments and rock types to show that the number and total length of fractures in

Deconvolving the Effects of Fluvial Transit and Storage on Preservation of Sedimentary Source Signals Using Heavy Minerals and Terrestrial Biomarkers

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 1, January–February 2026.
Sediment pathways from source to sink: Organic and clastic sediments are stored and transformed during floodplain transport and deposition, with transport modes shaping signal transmission and sediment alteration. ABSTRACT Analysis of naturally occurring markers of environmental signals, or proxy analysis, in sedimentary records can yield valuable ...

Supply Potential and Cost of Residual Forest Biomass for New Industrial Applications in Sweden

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 1, January 2026.
This work investigates the potential for logging residues (branches and tops that can be extracted during roundwood harvesting) to replace fossil‐based feedstocks and energy use in industry, using Sweden as a case study. To do so, this paper quantifies regional supply–demand balances for logging residues considering both current and possible future ...
