Airplane braking friction on dry snow, wet snow or slush contaminated runways
Airplanes need tire-pavement friction during taxiing, take-off and landing. The presence of snow reduces the friction and therefore there is need to understand how much friction can be expected on the different types of snow.

Synoptic and large‐scale drivers of extreme precipitation events in the Himalayas
Months associated with maximum frequency of extreme precipitation events (EPEs). 6102 extreme precipitation days (i.e., exceeding 99th percentile for daily precipitation) occurred across the Karakoram, Western Himalayas (WH), Central Himalayas (CH) and Eastern Himalayas (EH) during 1979 to 2023.

Analyzing the atmosphere-snow energy balance for wet-snow avalanche prediction
Melt water is the major driver of wet-snow instability. Its percolation and interaction with snow is complex, poorly understood and hence not well depicted in today’s snow cover models. As snow melt depends on the energy input into to the snow cover, we computed the energy balance and studied whether it is a good proxy for predicting periods with high ...

Revisiting bare‐ground evaporation in a high‐resolution numerical weather prediction system
An improved method is proposed to parameterize evaporation in numerical weather prediction models. The figure shows dew‐point temperature forecast error (standard deviation of forecast error and bias) versus lead time over the North Plains region during spring 2022 for three parameterizations: CTL, the α$$ \alpha $$ method of Jacquemin and Noilhan; IFS:

Precipitation growth and decay due to orography was analyzed using the radar network in Great Britain. Storm direction and speed modulate the intensity of precipitation growth or decay. Windward slopes predominantly exhibit precipitation growth, while leeward areas show precipitation decay.
