Wet-peel: a tool for comparing wet-strength resins

Nordic Pulp and Paper Research Journal, 2018
AbstractWe propose that a testing procedure we call wet-peel significantly augments conventional wet paper testing when comparing wet-strength resin efficacy or the influence wood pulp fiber surface treatments on wet paper strength. A thin layer of wet-strength resin is sandwiched between a pair of thin, wet regenerated cellulose membranes to form a ...

Wet-strength chemistry

1991
Paper is a layered mat consisting of a network of cellulose fibres bonded together. Each of the fibre-fibre contacts is held together by intermolecular forces (van der Waals; hydrogen bonding) which are very sensitive to water, the extent of bonding decreasing steadily as the water content of the paper increases [1], The water wets the fibres which ...

Determination of Wet Fiber Strength

TAPPI Journal, 2009
This study presents a method for measuring the strength of wet pulp fibers. It is derived from the breaking stress of wet paper strips at a zero span and the number of fibers bearing the load. Measurement was car-ried out with thermomechanical and chemical pulps under various levels of refining.

Wet strength paper repulping

2017
Recovered paper is the most important raw material in the world for the production of paper and paperboard (Hoke, 2009). The availability of recycled fibre is coming under pressure from competition for biomass for different uses, such as construction materials, biorefinery applications and the production of energy (Hoke, 2009).
