Experimental Study on the Flexural Performance of Geogrid-Reinforced Foamed Lightweight Soil

open access: yesBuildings
The flexural behavior of geogrid-reinforced foamed lightweight soil (GRFL soil) is investigated in this study using unconfined compressive and four-point bending tests.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

PAPER STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT AND RECYCLABILITY WITH POLYAMIDEAMINE-EPICHLOROHYDRIN (PAE)

open access: yesBioResources, 2012
The tensile strength behavior and recyclability of the paper prepared with the addition of polyamideamine-epichlorohydrin (PAE) were investigated. The dry and wet tensile strengths obtained with different PAE dosage were measured.

The influence of dry-wet cycle on the compressive strength of tuff

open access: yesDiscover Applied Sciences
Rainfall increases the moisture content of rocks, alters their internal structure, and weakens their mechanical strength, thereby compromising slope stability. Therefore, exploring the potential impact of rainfall on rock slopes is crucial. In the paper,

Toward Low‐Consumable Anodes: Process Simulation and Prospective Life Cycle Assessment of NiFe2O4‐NiO‐Ni‐Cu vs. Prebaked Anodes for Aluminum Production with use of Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐consumable nickel ferrite‐based anodes for the Hall–Héroult process are compared with conventional prebaked carbon anodes using thermodynamic simulation and prospective life cycle assessment under contrasting future electricity system pathways from 2025 to 2050.

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...

Durable and ductile double-network material for dust control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Dust generation is a world-wide issue due to its serious deleterious effects on the environment, human health and safety, and the economy. Although various dust suppression methods have been used for decades, some critical drawbacks in state-of-the-art ...

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Kraft lignin as wet-strength and wet-stiffness additives for molded pulp materials

open access: yesJournal of Bioresources and Bioproducts
Derived from renewable resources, cellulose based materials are gaining new importance due to their recyclability and biodegradability. Still, one fundamental challenge is their high sensitivity to water.

The Effects of Freeze-Drying on the Strength Characteristics of Naturally Aged Book Papers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Libraries occasionally have water main breaks, fires and floods. These disasters cause considerable water damage to thousands of books. Books that are left wet on the shelves will grow mold.
