A distance-based capillary biosensor using wettability alteration

Lab on a Chip, 2021
A visual quantitative distance-based biosensor through capillary action is proposed, which converts the wettability changes caused by the target molecules into a capillary rise height signal without any manufacturing technology.

Proppant Upgrade by Wettability Alteration

International Petroleum Technology Conference, 2016
Abstract Proppant plays a key role in maintaining fracture conductivity during well production. Silica sand is by far the most commonly used proppant due to its low cost and availability. However, some of frac sands, especially Tier 2 sand, are not always satisfactory under formation conditions.

Wettability Alteration with Weak Acid-Assisted Surfactant Flood

SPE Journal, 2022
Summary Oil-wetness and heterogeneity are two key reasons for low oil recovery by waterflooding in carbonate reservoirs. Surfactants have been effective in altering the oil-wet matrix to a more water-wet condition and initiating spontaneous imbibition.

Nanofluids Alter the Surface Wettability of Solids

Langmuir, 2015
We report the results of our studies on the changes in the contact angle and interfacial tension using a nanofluid composed of silica nanoparticles dispersed in water on three different solid substrates: gold (partially hydrophobic), glass (hydrophilic), and a silicon wafer (hydrophilic).

Wettability Alteration of Calcite by Nonionic Surfactants

Langmuir, 2018
The process of selecting an effective surfactant for wettability alteration is dependent on a number of factors, including mineral type, temperature, salinity, and nature of adsorbed oil and ultimately how the molecular structure of the surfactant interacts with all of these.

A Review on Wettability Alteration in Carbonate Rocks: Wettability Modifiers

Energy & Fuels, 2019
More than half of the global oil reserves are in carbonate reservoirs. Carbonate rocks, however, in most cases tend to be mixed-wet or oil-wet.

Flow Instability Associated With Wettability Alteration

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2007
Abstract Wettability of a reservoir rock can be altered by changing brine composition, e.g., lowering salinity, adding surfactants. Wettability alteration can mobilize stranded oil and enhance oil recovery. Analytical solution for 1D tertiary low salinity flood shows two saturation shocks one of which is associated with an adverse ...

Wettability Alteration with Silica Aerogel Nanodispersion

Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology, 2013
This work studies the wettability alteration using nanoporous silica aerogels for enhanced oil recovery. Water wet flat glass and outcrop sandstone are used for this aim. Modified silica aerogels are synthesized with cheap water glass as the precursor, and ambient pressure drying method.

Wettability Alteration of Fractured Carbonate Reservoirs

SPE Symposium on Improved Oil Recovery, 2008
Abstract Oil can be recovered from fractured, initially oil-wet carbonate reservoirs by wettability alteration with dilute surfactant and electrolyte solutions. The goal of this work is to study the effect of salinity, surfactant concentration, electrolyte concentration, and temperature on the wettability alteration and identify ...

Characterization of Ultrasonic-Induced Wettability Alteration under Subsurface Conditions

Langmuir, 2021
Understanding and manipulating wettability alterations has tremendous implications in theoretical research and industrial applications. This study proposes a novel idea of applying ultrasonic for wettability alterations and also provides its quantitative characterizations and in-depth analyses.
