Effective stress in swelling soils during wetting drying cycles
Engineering Geology, 2016Abstract In this study, the cyclic evolution of an effective stress parameter χ is determined for different swelling soils. This parameter can be modelled using the macro-, meso- and microscales in interaction, stemming from mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) tests.

Water-retention curves of loess under wetting−drying cycles
Géotechnique Letters, 2019Water-retention curves (WRCs) of intact, compacted and reconstituted loess were investigated using a pressure plate extractor. All specimens were prepared having the same initial density and subjected to two cycles of drying and wetting in the suction range of 0−400 kPa.

Durability of stabilized base courses subjected to wet–dry cycles
International Journal of Pavement Engineering, 2007A laboratory study was undertaken to evaluate the durability of cementitiously stabilized aggregate specimens subjected to wet–dry (W-D) cycles, representing a base course in a pavement structure. Specifically, cylindrical specimens of aggregates stabilized with 15% cement kiln dust (CKD), 10% class C fly ash, or 10% fluidized bed ash were prepared ...

Autogenous healing of engineered cementitious composites under wet–dry cycles
Cement and Concrete Research, 2009Abstract Self-healing of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) subjected to two different cyclic wetting and drying regimes was investigated in this paper. To quantify self-healing, resonant frequency measurements were conducted throughout wetting–drying cycles followed by uniaxial tensile testing of self-healing ECC specimens.

Moisture transport in concrete during wetting/drying cycles
Chemistry and Materials Research, 2013An accurate description of moisture transport in concrete is significant to determine the service life of a concrete structure. Many authors managed to describe the global moisture transport in concrete during wetting/drying cycles by using Fick’s laws of diffusion.

Alternative Methods for Wet-Dry Cycling of Geosynthetic Clay Liners
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2016AbstractAlternative laboratory approaches for cyclic permeation-desiccation experiments on geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) specimens are compared. Permeation cycles for hydraulic conductivity (k) are conducted in flexible-wall permeameters. Subsequent desiccation cycles are conducted using one of three approaches: (1) unconfined desiccation involving ...

Instrument for Wetting-Drying Cycles of Expansive Soil Under Loads
2018In this study, an instrument is developed to study the effect of wetting-drying cycles on the shear strength of expansive soil. The testing error of the developed device is investigated as well. By using this device, the water content of soil sample can be accurately controlled, and the vertical loads at different soil depths can be simulated.

Chloride Resistance of Recycled Aggregate Concrete under Wetting-Drying Cycles
Key Engineering Materials, 2016Recycled aggregates concrete (RAC) becomes an important participant in recycled materials. This study was performed in order to evaluate the effect of recycled coarse aggregates (RCA) on the chloride resistance of concretes with different coarse aggregates replacement ratio under wetting–drying cycles. Composition influence on the concrete were studied
