Selective hydrogenation of 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene in up- and down-flow fixed-bed reactors: experimental observations and modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The performance of trickle and flooded-bed reactors has been investigated and compared for an exothermic multi-step catalytic reaction. Selective hydrogenation of cyclododecatriene over Pd/Al2O3 has been studied in both up- and down-flow modes of ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Wetting of gradient fields: pathwise estimates

open access: yes, 2007
We consider the wetting transition in the framework of an effective interface model of gradient type, in dimension 2 and higher. We prove pathwise estimates showing that the interface is localized in the whole thermodynamically-defined partial wetting ...

Laboratory‐Scale Procedure for Evaluating the Flux Efficiency on Melt Cleanliness and Tensile Properties of Recycled Aluminum Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A laboratory‐scale procedure is developed to evaluate the efficiency of melt‐cleaning and drossing fluxes during aluminium alloy recycling, studying their effects on melt cleanliness and tensile properties of secondary foundry alloys. This work provides a practical tool for foundries and aluminium refiners to assess the efficiency of salt fluxes in ...

Composite Electrospun Fibers Containing Optimized B‐ and Cu‐Doped Bioactive Glass Sol‐Gel Particles for Potential Soft Tissue Engineering Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article describes the preparation and characterization of poly(ε‐caprolactone) electrospun composite fibers incorporating sol‐gel‐derived bioactive glass particles doped with B and Cu. Scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, contact angle, acellular bioactivity, mechanical and ...

Intermediate wetting state at nano/microstructured surfaces.

open access: yesSoft Matter, 2020
A general partial wetting model to describe an intermediate wetting state is proposed in this study to explain the deviations between the experimental results and classical theoretical wetting models for hydrophobic surfaces.

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

Effect of cyclic wetting–drying on tensile mechanical behavior and microstructure of clay-bearing sandstone

open access: yesInternational Journal of Coal Science & Technology, 2020
The understanding of the weakening mechanism of tensile strength of rock subjected to cyclic wetting-drying is critical for rock engineering. Tensile strength tests were conducted on a total of 35 sandstone specimens with different wetting-drying cycles.

Scalable Robotic Laser Texturing of Tilted Microanchors for Direction‐Independent Metal–Polymer Joining

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A robot‐assisted laser processing method is proposed that enables the formation of surface‐tilted microanchors on metal substrates to improve metal–polymer joining. Using a six‐axis robotic platform, the laser beam's incidence angle, scanning path, and interline pitch can be precisely controlled, allowing the deliberate overlap of heat‐affected zones ...

Influence of Wetting Properties on Diffusion in a Confined Fluid

open access: yes, 1999
We briefly discuss how the wetting properties of a fluid/solid interface can indirectly influence the diffusion properties of fluid confined between two solid walls.
