Carbon and nitrogen mineralization as affected by drying and wetting cycles

Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 2005
Drying and rewetting of soil is an important process in soil aggregation, soil organic matter (SOM) decomposition, and nutrient cycling. We investigated the source of the C and N flush that occurs upon rewetting of dry soil, and whether it is from microbial death and/or aggregate destruction.

Suction controlled wetting-drying cycles on a compacted scaly clay

2005
Due to their structural features and natural water content, scaly clays are being used in Sicily in the construction of core earth dams and waste isolation fills. A reliable design of the earth constructions requires the characterisation of the behaviour of the compacted scaly clay in unsaturated conditions.

The Economics of Wet Versus Dry Cooling for Combined Cycle

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 1995
The privatization of the British power generation industry has been accompanied by a major change in the technology employed in power station construction. Large coal- or oil-fired steam stations based on the Rankine cycle have been superseded for the moment by gas-fired combined cycle stations.

Environmental (wet and dry) cycling of hydraulic lime mortars [PDF]

open access: possible, 2013
This study investigates the impact moisture control has on the aftercare of freshly manufactured hydraulic lime mortars by wet and dry cycling. Mechanical properties were monitored by periodic compressive testing and the extent of carbonation by phenolphthalein staining of cross sections.

Moisture transport in concrete during wetting/drying cycles

Chemistry and Materials Research, 2013
An accurate description of moisture transport in concrete is significant to determine the service life of a concrete structure. Many authors managed to describe the global moisture transport in concrete during wetting/drying cycles by using Fick’s laws of diffusion.
