Temperatures and wear at railway tread braking: Field experiments and simulation

Field tests were carried out for a commuter train in revenue service equipped with cast iron and organic composite brake blocks. Temperatures for wheel tread, wheel web and brake blocks and wear of wheel treads and brake blocks were recorded.

The impact of footwear on human talar trabecular architecture

Medial and lateral views of the human foot skeleton in the shod and unshod groups, with color maps representing mean relative trabecular bone volume fraction (rBV/TV) in the talus for each group. The shod group exhibited greater rBV/TV in the medial and posterior talus, whereas the unshod group had greater rBV/TV in the talar head and neck.
