Factors predicting outcome in whiplash injury: a systematic meta-review of prognostic factors

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, 2016
BackgroundWhiplash injuries are among the leading injuries related to car crashes and it is important to determine the prognostic factors that predict the outcome of patients with these injuries.

Implementation of a guideline-based clinical pathway of care to improve health outcomes following whiplash injury (Whiplash ImPaCT): protocol of a randomised, controlled trial.

open access: yesJournal of Physiotherapy, 2016
INTRODUCTION Whiplash-associated disorders (WAD) are a huge worldwide health and economic burden. The propensity towards developing into chronic, disabling conditions drives the rise in health and economic costs associated with treatment, productivity ...

Assessing head injury risk and neuroprotective effect of ketone monoester supplementation in military airborne training

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, March 2026.
Abstract Warfighters face significant risk of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) during operations and training. We performed a double‐blind, randomized, placebo‐controlled trial to: (1) determine head strike (HS) incidence, during US Army Basic Airborne Course's Improved Swing Landing Trainer (ISLT) training, (2) test protective efficacy of ketone ...

The Role of MRI in Debunking the Fallacy of “Mild” Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Volume 63, Issue 2, Page 297-309, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is a prevalent yet often overlooked public health concern due to the absence of detectable abnormalities on CT or conventional MRI scans. Approximately 18.3%–31.3% of mTBI patients experience persistent symptoms 3–6 months post‐injury, despite normal imaging results, making diagnosis and treatment challenging.

Assessment of Central Sensitivity Syndrome and Sensory Processing Sensitivity: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1556, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT The association between central sensitivity syndrome (CSS) and sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) demonstrates the need for assessment tools that quantify the physical and psychological alterations observed in these two conditions in order to generate multidisciplinary treatments and establish their effectiveness.

A Programmable, 3D Neuron‐On‐Chip Platform Integrating Near Real‐Time Biosensing and Multiaxial Loading for Mechanobiological Injury Profiling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 2, 9 January 2026.
A programmable 3D Neuron‐Injury‐on‐a‐Chip platform integrates multiaxial mechanical loading with ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensing to decode neuronal responses in real time. By mimicking physiologically relevant extension–torsion forces, the system reveals load‐specific biomarker trajectories (T‐Tau, NFL), gene regulation, and apoptosis.

A Collaborative Approach to Co‐Creating Contact Confident, an Evidence‐Informed Tackle Safety and Technique Intervention for Coaches and Players in Rugby Union

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Training strategies to promote safe and effective tackle technique are an important target for injury prevention and enhancing performance across the rugby codes. However, there is a research‐to‐implementation gap in ‘real‐world’ settings and a need for more studies with women and girls.

Design and evaluation of a magnetic resonance‐guided focused ultrasound system for the treatment of cervical spine pain

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 53, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Background Neck pain is a common health problem, with a large percentage of individuals experiencing chronic or recurring pain. A considerable portion of chronic neck pain is attributed to the facet joints, which are small joints located at the back of the spinal column.

From Prediction to Prevention: Using Text Mining and Explainable Machine Learning for Urban Bus Accident Analytics

open access: yesRisk Analysis, Volume 46, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Urban bus accidents present major safety and operational challenges, particularly in densely populated metropolitan areas. This study develops a machine learning‐based analytical framework to identify, quantify, and interpret the factors associated with severe bus accidents.
