An investigation of compressible flows with large whirl components
This investigation was conducted to determine the losses in the scroll and inlet guide vanes of a dual discharge, radial-inflow turbine. Difficulties are encountered in such tests because the air is discharged from the guide vanes with a large whirl component into the cavity normally occupied by the turbine rotor.

An Ionic Gelation Powder for Ultrafast Hemostasis and Accelerated Wound Healing
An ultrafast ionic gelation‐activated hemostatic powder (AGCL) forms a hydrogel within ≈1 s upon contact with blood‐derived calcium ions. The AGCL powder enables rapid hemorrhage control, strong tissue adhesion, and enhanced healing. The powder's pre‐crosslinked polymer network ensures high blood uptake and stability, offering effective treatment for ...

Analysis of dynamic characteristics of fluid force induced by labyrinth seal [PDF]
Flow patterns of the labyrinth seal are experimentally investigated for making a mathematical model of labyrinth seal and to obtain the flow induced force of the seal.

Encoding Magnetic Anisotropies in Digital Light Processing 3D Printing
A hybrid magnetic device—combining a coaxial coil within a nested Halbach array—is presented, integrated into a DLP 3D printer to enable spatially resolved magnetic field control. This system enables complex, multimodal responses by programming liquid crystal elastomer resins for magnetic and thermal actuation, and by inducing electrically conductive ...

Influence of impeller and diffuser geometries on the lateral fluid forces of whirling centrifugal impeller [PDF]
Lateral fluid forces on two-dimensional centrifugal impellers, which whirl on a circular orbit in a vaneless diffuser, were reported. Experiments were further conducted for the cases in which a three-dimensional centrifugal impeller, a model of the ...

Calibration of the flow in the channel of the whirling arm
The calibration of the flow in the channel of the Whirling Arm is described and results for pitch yaw and wind speed are presented. These indicate that the flow is quite acceptable for the type of model tests envisaged.

High Entropy Wide‐Bandgap Borates with Broadband Luminescence and Large Nonlinear Optical properties
High‐entropy rare‐earth borates exhibit excellent nonlinear optical and broadband luminescence properties arising from multi‐component doping, chemical disorder, increased configurational entropy, and increased lattice and electronic anharmonicity. This formulation enabled us to obtain a large, environmentally stable single crystal with 3X higher laser‐

Analytical prediction of labyrinth-seal-flow-induced arotor excitation forces [PDF]
An analytical method to calculate the rotor excitation forces arising from labyrinth seals is presented. The objective is to model the gas flow through the seal clearance passages and cavities when the rotor is positioned eccentricly relative to the ...

MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.

Physical explanations of the destabilizing effect of damping in rotating parts [PDF]
The destabilizing effect of rotating damping was investigated. When the rotation was faster than the whirl, rotating damping drags the orbiting particle forward. When stationary damping was also present, the stability borderline was readily determined by
