NOVEL SOLUTION TO REYNOLDS EQUATION FOR EXTERNALLY PRESSURISED GAS BEARINGS AS A COMBINATION OF THE SOLUTIONS OF TWO INITIAL VALUE PROBLEMS [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings on Engineering Sciences, 2020
This paper presents a novel method which generates the solution of Reynolds boundary value differential equation as a combination of the solutions of two initial value problems (IVP).

Analytical solutions for whirling groundwater flow in two‐dimensional heterogeneous anisotropic aquifers [PDF]

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 2006
Analytical solutions are derived for steady state groundwater flow in a heterogeneous, anisotropic, semiconfined aquifer. The aquifer consists of a number of horizontal layers, while each layer consists of a number of homogeneous cells with different hydraulic conductivity tensors.

Correction of procedure for conversion of gas-dynamic characteristics of high-pressure centrifugal сompressor stage in case of frequency change rotor rotation [PDF]

open access: yesОмский научный вестник: Серия "Авиационно-ракетное и энергетическое машиностроение", 2022
The proposed corrected method of conversion of gas-dynamic characteristics of high-pressure stage of turbocharger operating in the area of high circumferential speeds (conditional Mach numbers > 0,5) to other rotor speeds is given in the work, taking ...

Theoretical Study of Fluid Forces on a Centrifugal Impeller Rotating and Whirling in a Volute [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Fluid forces on a rotating and whirling centrifugal impeller in a volute are analyzed with the assumption of a two-dimensional rotational, inviscid flow. For simplicity, the flow is assumed to be perfectly guided by the impeller vanes.

Capturing the Swirling Vortex and the Impact of Ventilation Conditions on Small-Scale Fire Whirls

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The fundamental flow structure and temperature distribution of small-scale fire whirls, including tangential and axial velocities, temperature variation, and air entrainment in the lower boundary layer, were successfully captured using a generic fire ...

From fire whirls to blue whirls and combustion with reduced pollution. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fire whirls are powerful, spinning disasters for people and surroundings when they occur in large urban and wildland fires. Whereas fire whirls have been studied for fire-safety applications, previous research has yet to harness their potential burning ...

The Effect of Inlet Swirl on the Rotordynamic Shroud Forces in a Centrifugal Pump [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The role played by fluid forces in determining the rotordynamic stability of a centrifugal pump is gaining increasing attention. The present research investigates the contributions to the rotordynamic forces from the discharge-to-suction leakage flows ...

Eccentricity Effects Upon the Flow Field Inside a Whirling Annular Seal [PDF]

open access: yesTribology Transactions, 1995
The flow field inside a whirling annular seal operating at a Reynolds number of 24,000 and a Taylor number of 6600 has been measured using a 3-D laser Doppler anemometer system. Two eccentricity ratios were considered, 0.10 and 0.50. The seal has a diameter of 164 mm, is 37.3 mm long, and has a clearance of 1.27 mm.

Influence of Eddy-Generation Mechanism on the Characteristic of On-Source Fire Whirl

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
This paper numerically examines the characterisation of fire whirl formulated under various entrainment conditions in an enclosed configuration. The numerical framework, integrating large eddy simulation and detailed chemistry, is constructed to assess ...
