Analysis of the Instability Phenomena Caused by Steam in High-Pressure Turbines
Instability phenomena in steam turbines may happen as a consequence of certain characteristics of the steam flow as well as of the mechanical and geometrical properties of the seals.

Investigating the turbulent dynamics of small-scale surface fires
High frequency (30 Hz) two-dimensional particle image velocimetry data recorded during a field experiment exploring fire spread from point ignition in hand-spread pine needles under calm ambient wind conditions are analysed in this study.

On-chip 3D rotation of oocyte based on a vibration-induced local whirling flow [PDF]
We propose a novel on-chip 3D cell rotation method based on a vibration-induced flow. When circular vibration is applied to a microchip with micropillar patterns, a highly localized whirling flow is induced around the micropillars. The direction and velocity of this flow can be controlled by changing the direction and amplitude of the applied vibration.

Functional and Structural Evidence of Neurofluid Circuit Aberrations in Huntington Disease
ABSTRACT Objective Disrupted neurofluid regulation may contribute to neurodegeneration in Huntington disease (HD). Because neurofluid pathways influence waste clearance, inflammation, and the distribution of central nervous system (CNS)–delivered therapeutics, understanding their dysfunction is increasingly important as targeted treatments emerge.

Damping seal for turbomachinery [PDF]
A damping seal between a high speed rotor member and stator member that separates pressurized fluid compartments is described. It is characterized by the rotor member having a smooth outer surface and the stator member having its bore surface roughened ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

A Small Perturbation CFD Method for Calculation of Seal Rotordynamic Coefficients
Seal rotordynamic coefficients link the fluid reaction forces to the rotor motion, and hence are needed in the stability calculations for the overall rotating systems.
