Whispering Gallery wave modes on elastic cylinders

open access: closedThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1976
We present an analytic and numerical study of Whispering Gallery-type surface- wave modes on solid elastic cylinders imbedded in a fluid. The complex wave numbers of these waves are obtained for the case of high frequencies (ka≳15), including both their attenuation and dispersion curves for the phase velocities. It is shown that there are two different

Radiation field of whispering gallery waves over a concave-convex boundary [PDF]

open access: closedJournal of Soviet Mathematics, 1982
In this work the wave field arising over a concave-convex reflecting boundary is studied in the Kirchhoff approximation. The field arises as a result of the incidence of whispering gallery waves on an inflection point of the boundary from the concave side.

Transverse whispering gallery waves in scattering by elastic cylinders

open access: closedUltrasonics, 1990
Abstract The steady-state problem of a normally incident plane acoustic wave scattered by an infinitely long elastic (aluminium) cylinder embedded in a liquid (water) is considered. The far field form function is analysed as a function of x = ka . The modal resonance components are joined into families. It is shown that in the region 0 ⩽ x ⩽ 50,

Whispering-gallery waves in optical fibres

Quantum Electronics, 2002
The process of excitation of whispering-gallery waves (WGWs) in optical fibres (microcavities) with the help of a bitapered fibre is analysed. It is shown that useful information on the WGW modes can be obtained from the spectrograms recorded by scanning the exciting-radiation frequency.
