Three‐wave mixing in whispering gallery resonators

Laser & Photonics Reviews, 2016
AbstractWe review the progress in the development of frequency converters based on three‐wave mixing in whispering gallery resonators (WGRs). The theoretical description, given in a unified notation for all basic processes, reveals that the phase‐matching condition known from conventional devices is replaced by several selection rules and, furthermore,

Whispering Gallery Waves Near Fluid-solid Boundaries

71st EAGE Conference and Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2009, 2009
Whispering gallery waves propagated inside fluid along its curved interface with elastic solid are discussed. Asymptotic formula described the wave field is suggested.

Whispering gallery waves localized near circular isobaths in shallow water

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2019
Sound propagation in an area of shallow sea with circular isobaths and the bottom depth increasing towards their curvature center is considered. Such an area could be part of a bay, a lagoon, or a lake with bowl-like bottom relief. The possible formation of whispering gallery waves localized in the vicinity of curved isobaths is considered.

Optical solitons appearing during propagation of whispering-gallery waves

Quantum Electronics, 2003
The properties of solitons appearing during the propagation of whispering-gallery waves in a homogeneous glass cylinder are considered. It is shown that such solitons can be used for the light frequency conversion.

Whispering gallery modes in rutile resonators at millimeter wave frequencies

13th International Conference on Microwaves, Radar and Wireless Communications. MIKON - 2000. Conference Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.00EX428), 2002
Whispering gallery modes in single crystal rutile resonator were measured at the frequency range 15-30 GHz. Predicted and measured values of resonant frequencies for several WGM were in excellent agreement. Permittivity components parallel and perpendicular to anisotropy axis have been evaluated and their values were /spl epsi//sub /spl perp//=85.8/spl

Wave Front Sets of the Buldyrev Head Wave and Whispering Gallery Waves

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2016
The diffraction of waves, produced by a point source, on an inhomogeneous half-plane is considered. The square of the wave number inside an inhomogeneous region is assumed to decrease linearly with the distance from the division boundary. Using the results obtained earlier, the Buldyrev head wave and whispering gallery waves are analyzed.

Acoustic whispering gallery mode coupling with Lamb waves in liquid

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2013
Acoustic whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in a micro-quartz tube immersed in liquid medium, excited by the evanescent wave of a Lamb wave device, are demonstrated. These excited WGMs exhibit characteristics similar to those of optical WGMs, such as narrow periodic transmission dips and a high quality factor.

Evanescent wave coupling of whispering gallery modes of a dielectric cylinder

IEE Proceedings J Optoelectronics, 1993
By developing a direct correspondence between a given whispering gallery mode of a dielectric cylinder and a mode of an equivalent waveguide ring resonator, the evanescent wave coupling characteristics of such modes can be simply modelled. This also allows the conditions for resonant excitation of a single whispering gallery mode to be determined.

High-Q whispering gallery travelling wave resonators for oscillator frequency stabilisation

Proceedings of the 1999 Joint Meeting of the European Frequency and Time Forum and the IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium (Cat. No.99CH36313), 2000
Usually a frequency-stabilized standing wave resonator-oscillator incorporating a resonator as a frequency discriminator requires a circulator to separate the injected and reflected wave, A ferrite circulator is a noisy device and can limit the phase noise or frequency stability. Moreover, we show that the noise in a circulator varies, and detailed low

Excitation coefficients of whispering gallery waves in a neighborhood of a flat point of a concave boundary [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Soviet Mathematics, 1982
A method is proposed for the computer calculation of the excitation coefficients of whispering gallery waves which arise beyond a flat point of a concave boundary when a single whispering gallery wave is incident on this point. Values of the moduli of these coefficients are presented for the incidence of the first and second whispering gallery waves ...
