Particle acceleration by wave scattering off dielectric spheres at whispering-gallery-mode resonance [PDF]

open access: diamondPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2007
The large electromagnetic fields, created in wave scattering near a perfect dielectric sphere at the condition of whispering-gallery-mode resonances, are investigated as driving units for high energy charged particle accelerators.

Optomechanics with Surface-Acoustic-Wave Whispering-Gallery Modes [PDF]

open access: greenPhysical Review Letters, 2009
A surface acoustic wave (SAW) creates its own high-Q ultra-small volume whispering gallery modes (WGMs), different from usual bulk acoustic WGMs, in an optical dielectric WGM resonator. We show that it is possible to realize an externally controllable, efficient triply-resonant opto-mechanical interaction between two optical WGMs and the SAW WGM and to

Optical rogue waves in whispering-gallery-mode resonators [PDF]

open access: greenPhysical Review A, 2014
We report a theoretical study showing that rogue waves can emerge in whispering gallery mode resonators as the result of the chaotic interplay between Kerr nonlinearity and anomalous group-velocity dispersion. The nonlinear dynamics of the propagation of light in a whispering gallery-mode resonator is investigated using the Lugiato-Lefever equation ...

Photonic lenses with whispering gallery waves at Janus particles

open access: diamondOpto-Electronic Science, 2022
We show that electric field on the plane surface of truncated sphere or cylinders (so called Janus particles) have sharp resonances versus the depth of removed segment of a sphere or cylinder. These resonances are related to the excited whispering gallery waves caused by truncation. It is a new mechanism of the field localization.

Surface Waves of Rayleigh and Whispering Gallery Type [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1973
Surface waves on smooth curved boundaries consist of an infinite number of modes, the lowest of which may be classified as of “Rayleigh type,” since it tends towards the Rayleigh wave in the limit of vanishing curvature. The others, which correspond to the “Whispering Gallery” modes of Lord Rayleigh, combine to form the lateral wave(s) in the zero ...

Whispering gallery modes for elastic waves in disk resonators [PDF]

open access: goldAIP Advances, 2011
The resonant modes of elastic waves in disk resonators are computationally studied with the finite difference time domain method. Different materials examined for the disk such as platinum and silicon. The effect of a glass substrate is also important especially in the case of silicon disks because of the similarity of sound velocities and mass ...

Waveguide for Lamb Waves Based on Whispering-Gallery Mode [PDF]

open access: green2018 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), 2018
We proposed three kinds of waveguides namely straight waveguide, Z-shaped waveguide and Pi-shaped waveguide in an otherwise perfect phononic crystal. We analyzed numerically the transmissivity and the displacement field distribution behind the waveguides.

ANALYSIS OF X-RAY WHISPERING GALLERY WAVES PROPAGATING ALONG LIQUID MENISCUSES

open access: goldResource-Efficient Technologies, 2018
X-ray diffraction and fluorescence of whispering galleries (WGs) which propagate along meniscuses of deionized water or silica hydrosols enriched by CsOH have been analyzed for the first time. The measurements have been performed using the diffractometer with a moving tube-detector system.

Whispering Gallery Waves in a Neighborhood of a Higher Order Zero of the Curvature of the Boundary

open access: bronzePublications of the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences, 1989
Let Ω⊂R 2 be a domain with a smooth boundary Γ. Suppose Ω is a media where some wave propagates with a speed, say 1 for simplicity. When Ω is strictly convex, there is a high frequency wave well known by the name of whispering gallery waves which propagates along ...

Evanescent-Wave Pumped and Gain Coupled Whispering-Gallery-Mode Fibre Laser [PDF]

open access: hybrid, 2012
A novel Whispering–Gallery–Mode (WGM) fibre laser is demonstrated by pumping and gain coupling with evanescent-waves in this chapter. The properties of the fibre laser, including energy threshold, produced length and polarization of lasing emission have been investigated.
