Whispering gallery waves in a neighborhood of a flat point of a concave boundary

Journal of Soviet Mathematics, 1983
The propagation of whispering gallery waves near a concave (from the side of the wave field) boundary having a flat point is studied. As in [4], the problem that arises for an equation of Schrodinger type is solved by the method of grids. The results of the computations are presented as shadow figures.

Wave Front Sets of the Buldyrev Head Wave and Whispering Gallery Waves

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2016
The diffraction of waves, produced by a point source, on an inhomogeneous half-plane is considered. The square of the wave number inside an inhomogeneous region is assumed to decrease linearly with the distance from the division boundary. Using the results obtained earlier, the Buldyrev head wave and whispering gallery waves are analyzed.

Evanescent wave coupling of whispering gallery modes of a dielectric cylinder

IEE Proceedings J Optoelectronics, 1993
By developing a direct correspondence between a given whispering gallery mode of a dielectric cylinder and a mode of an equivalent waveguide ring resonator, the evanescent wave coupling characteristics of such modes can be simply modelled. This also allows the conditions for resonant excitation of a single whispering gallery mode to be determined.

High-Q whispering gallery travelling wave resonators for oscillator frequency stabilisation

Proceedings of the 1999 Joint Meeting of the European Frequency and Time Forum and the IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium (Cat. No.99CH36313), 2000
Usually a frequency-stabilized standing wave resonator-oscillator incorporating a resonator as a frequency discriminator requires a circulator to separate the injected and reflected wave, A ferrite circulator is a noisy device and can limit the phase noise or frequency stability. Moreover, we show that the noise in a circulator varies, and detailed low

Interaction of whispering-gallery electromagnetic waves with acoustic waves in tapered quartz rods

Quantum Electronics, 2001
The propagation of whispering-gallery waves in a dynamic cavity formed by a tapered quartz rod and the plane interface between two regions of the rod with different refractive indices moving along the axis of the rod is analysed. It is shown that the limiting frequency shift of light in such a cavity is determined by its Q factor and the attainable ...

On whispering gallery wave propagation in a medium with a vertical separating boundary

Journal of Soviet Mathematics, 1991
The solution of the problem of transmission of a whispering gallery wave through the separating boundary is constructed in the parabolic equation approximation. Formulas for the transformation coefficients of the normal modes are constructed in the case of the Dirichlet and Neumann problems. Computational results are presented.

Internal acoustical excitation of shells: Scholte and whispering gallery-type waves

Journal of Applied Physics, 1989
The authors study the acoustic radiation from cylindrical elastic shells immersed in water and containing an internal acoustic source. To this end, they use the method of isolation and identification of resonances (MIIR) perfected at Le Havre in the 1980’s [G. Maze and J. Ripoche, Phys. Lett. 84A, 309 (1981); Rev. Phys. Appl.

Polarization and losses of whispering-gallery waves along twisted trajectories

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1979
A geometrical optics treatment shows that whispering-gallery waves following twisted trajectories can be in eigenstates of polarization if σ = (radius of curvature × torsion) is a constant. The Jones vectors of these eigenpolarizations are calculated, along with their propagation constants and power attenuation constants.

Whispering gallery traveling wave interferometer for low phase noise applications

Proceedings of the 2004 IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium and Exposition, 2004., 2005
Traveling wave filters utilizing sapphire resonators excited at whispering gallery modes (WGR) have a good perspective for application as a microwave interferometer in the field of ultralow phase noise microwave sources. Our paper examines in detail a classical approach of a traveling wave (TW) disk dielectric WGR coupled with a dielectric waveguide ...
