Whispering gallery modes in rutile resonators at millimeter wave frequencies
13th International Conference on Microwaves, Radar and Wireless Communications. MIKON - 2000. Conference Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.00EX428), 2002Whispering gallery modes in single crystal rutile resonator were measured at the frequency range 15-30 GHz. Predicted and measured values of resonant frequencies for several WGM were in excellent agreement. Permittivity components parallel and perpendicular to anisotropy axis have been evaluated and their values were /spl epsi//sub /spl perp//=85.8/spl

Three‐wave mixing in whispering gallery resonators
Laser & Photonics Reviews, 2016AbstractWe review the progress in the development of frequency converters based on three‐wave mixing in whispering gallery resonators (WGRs). The theoretical description, given in a unified notation for all basic processes, reveals that the phase‐matching condition known from conventional devices is replaced by several selection rules and, furthermore,

Optical solitons appearing during propagation of whispering-gallery waves
Quantum Electronics, 2003The properties of solitons appearing during the propagation of whispering-gallery waves in a homogeneous glass cylinder are considered. It is shown that such solitons can be used for the light frequency conversion.

Whispering gallery waves in a neighborhood of a flat point of a concave boundary
Journal of Soviet Mathematics, 1983The propagation of whispering gallery waves near a concave (from the side of the wave field) boundary having a flat point is studied. As in [4], the problem that arises for an equation of Schrodinger type is solved by the method of grids. The results of the computations are presented as shadow figures.

Self-confinement of light whispering gallery waves
5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. Proceedings of LFNM 2003., 2004Summary form only given. Among the numerous specific properties of whispering gallery (WG) waves the most important one for the problem considered is that the WG group velocity can be much less than the velocity of light. As a result, the energy density in the WG wave and, consequently, the electric field strength which determines the increase in the ...

The Fifth International Kharkov Symposium on Physics and Engineering of Microwaves, Millimeter, and Submillimeter Waves (IEEE Cat. No.04EX828), 2004
The carried out investigations of the whispering gallery mode fields in a hemisphere by a local radiant arranged on a mirror and, not having central symmetry, have shown an opportunity of preferred excitation of waves of one type E or H. It allows a little to rarefy a spectrum of excited oscillations, having restricted one of the modes, and more ...

Acoustic whispering gallery mode coupling with Lamb waves in liquid
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2013Acoustic whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in a micro-quartz tube immersed in liquid medium, excited by the evanescent wave of a Lamb wave device, are demonstrated. These excited WGMs exhibit characteristics similar to those of optical WGMs, such as narrow periodic transmission dips and a high quality factor.

Acoustic Waves Tunnelling into Whispering Gallery Waves
2003Generation and propagation of acoustic interface waves running along curvilinear weakly contrast boundary of two media are stadied by formal highfrequency asymptotic technique. Two types of interface waves are found. Waves of one type resemble creeping waves, on the convex side of the boundary and have ray representation on the concave side.

Transverse whispering gallery waves in scattering by elastic cylinders
Ultrasonics, 1990Abstract The steady-state problem of a normally incident plane acoustic wave scattered by an infinitely long elastic (aluminium) cylinder embedded in a liquid (water) is considered. The far field form function is analysed as a function of x = ka . The modal resonance components are joined into families. It is shown that in the region 0 ⩽ x ⩽ 50,
