White Clover

2019
This poem on the white clover further defines the idea of a weed for someone possessed of the garden-sentiment. "If only its name were all forgot / And 'twere giv'n its chance to grow," the white clover would be appreciated as a flower rather than maligned as a weed, the poem asserts.

Hydrogen evolution from white clover

New Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, 1981
Abstract Hydrogen (H2) evolution from ‘Grasslands Huia’ white clover (Trifolium repens L.) nodulated by Rhizobium trifolu TA1, was suppressed by 6% acetylene-inair during acetylene reduction (AR) assays of nitrogen (N) fixation. Field measurements showed significant H2 evolution and reduced nodule relative efficiency over summer in a laxly mown pasture,

Tests for resistance to white clover mosaic virus in red and white clover

Annals of Applied Biology, 1982
SUMMARYA range of red and white clover cultivars was tested for immunity to white clover mosaic virus. All plants became infected although some showed no symptoms. Enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and immunosorbent electron microscopy (ISEM) revealed significant differences in virus concentration between red clover cultivars and between clones

White clover and grass grub

New Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, 1978
Seventy-four overseas lines of white clover were screened for resistance and tolerance to grass grub in a pot experiment in which insect weight gains and plant fresh weights were recorded. There were no differences in individual mean weights of larvae between lines at the end of the experiment.

White clover evaluations in Northland

New Zealand Journal of Experimental Agriculture, 1983
Abstract One hundred and twenty overseas and New Zealand lines of white clover (Trifolium repens L.) were grown on flat land at Kaikohe, northern New Zealand. The scoring of performances relative to that of ‘Grasslands pitau’, the best commercial cultivar for the region, indicated scope for substantial further genetic improvement of white clover.

Molecular Genetics of White Clover

2003
Molecular genetics offers a major new impetus to breeding programmes of white clover throughout the world. Researchers have identified key agronomic traits governing reliability and persistence in the field. These characters reflect both tolerance of a variety of biotic and abiotic stresses and root architecture.

Transgenic White Clover (Trifolium repens)

2000
White clover (Trifolium repens L.) is a perennial legume species that is an important component of many temperate zone pastoral animal production systems. In New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, and to a lesser extent western and southern Europe, the USA, South America, and Australia, white clover is grown together with grasses, as a low ...

Milk production from grass-white clover and grass-white clover-plantain swards

The inclusion of forage herb species, such as plantain (Plantago lanceolata), to perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.)-white clover (Trifolium repens) swards may provide increased animal and herbage production gains to pasture based dairy systems. A grazing experiment comparing herbage and milk production from perennial ryegrass-white clover (WC) or ...
