Shocking and Mass Loss of Compact Donor Stars in Type Ia Supernovae

Type Ia supernovae arise from thermonuclear explosions of white dwarfs accreting from a binary companion. Following the explosion, the surviving donor star leaves at roughly its orbital velocity.
