Seismic Cartography of White-Dwarf Interiors From the Toulouse-Montréal Optimal-Design Approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
Probing internal properties of white-dwarf stars has been amongst the earliest objectives of asteroseismology, following the first discovery in the late 1960s of non-radial pulsations in these evolved compact stars.

RNA‐Based Biopesticides: Pioneering Precision Solutions for Sustainable Aquaculture in China

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The Chinese dragon represents RNA biopesticides, which effectively counteract bacterial, viral, and parasitic threats, safeguarding aquatic life. This method is precise, focusing solely on harmful agents and sparing beneficial aquaculture species. Its innovative nature protects aquatic environments while reducing ecological footprint.

Association of Synovial Innate Immune Exhaustion With Worse Pain in Knee Osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Uncontrolled pain remains a major clinical challenge in the management of knee osteoarthritis (OA), the most common disabling joint disease. Worse pain is associated with synovial innate immune cell infiltration (synovitis), but the role of innate immune‐regulatory cells in pain is unknown. Our objective was to identify synovial innate immune

Hot White Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
The article covers the physical properties and evolution of single white dwarfs ranging in temperature from 20,000K to 200,000 and higher, the hottest know electron-degenerate stars. After discussing the classification of their spectra, the author reviews the known properties, parameters, evolutionary state, as well as persisting and new puzzles ...

The Possible White Dwarf-Neutron Star Connection [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The current status of the problem of whether neutron stars can form, in close binary systems, by accretion-induced collapse (AIC) of white dwarfs is examined. We find that, in principle, both initially cold C+O white dwarfs in the high-mass tail of their mass distribution in binaries and O+Ne+Mg white dwarfs can produce neutron stars.

Exsolution process in white dwarf stars

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. White dwarf stars are considered to be suitable cosmic laboratories for studying the physics of dense plasma. Furthermore, the use of white dwarf stars as cosmic clocks to date stellar populations and main sequence companions demands an appropriate understanding of the physics of white dwarfs in order to provide precise ages for these stars ...

Stellar Physics and General Relativity

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The general theory of relativity is currently established as the most precise theory of gravity supported by observations, and its application is diverse ranging from astronomy to cosmology, while its application to astrophysics has been restricted only to compact stars due to the assumption that the Newtonian approximation is sufficient for ...

Asteroseismology of One of the Most Rapidly Rotating DBV Stars: EPIC 248705247

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a comprehensive analysis of oscillations of the helium-rich white dwarf DBV star EPIC 248705247 (SDSS J102106.69+082724.8). We extract the light curves from 79.7 days of K2 Campaign 14 data and identify 21 independent frequencies, including ...

The Q Branch Cooling Anomaly Can Be Explained by Mergers of White Dwarfs and Subgiant Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
Gaia's exquisite parallax measurements allowed for the discovery and characterization of the Q branch in the Hertzsprung–Russell diagram, where massive C/O white dwarfs (WDs) pause their dimming due to energy released during crystallization ...

Lithium production in the merging of white dwarf stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2012
The origin of R Coronae Borealis stars has been elusive for over 200 years. Currently, two theories for their formation have been presented. These are the Final Flash scenario, in which a dying asymptotic giant branch (AGB) star throws off its atmosphere to reveal the hydrogen poor, heavily processed material underneath, and the double degenerate ...
