Surrogate nits impregnated with white piedra - a case report
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, 2004ABSTRACTWhite piedral spores packed inside empty pedicular nits were accidentally found on microscopic examination in a 42‐year‐old Indian woman who presented with hair loss. The diagnosis of piedra was confirmed on culture. She responded to topical 2% miconazole nitrate solution and manual removal of the nits.

White piedra (trichosporosis).
Archives of dermatology, 1973White piedra, caused by the yeast-like fungus Trichosporon cutaneum , is a superficial infection involving hair. The causative organism is easily isolated on Sabouraud's medium. Simple clinical and mycological techniques employed in making a positive identification are outlined. The organism rapidly colonizes hair when suspended in normal saline.

Tinea versicolor, tinea nigra, white piedra, and black piedra

White piedra: evidence for a synergistic infection
British Journal of Dermatology, 1990To determine the relative roles of coryneform bacteria and Trichosporon beigelii in the pathogenesis of genital white piedra, scrotal hair from 10 subjects was studied. Hairs were examined by light microscopy to determine the relative proportions of each organism, and were also cultured for coryneforms and yeast.
