Inheritance of plastids in interspecific hybrids of blue spruce and white spruce

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1989
Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) was purified from blue spruce (Picea pungens Engelm.) and white spruce [P. glauca (Moench) Voss], and was digested with several different restriction endonucleases. Restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) were identified that differentiated the cpDNA of both species.

The phenology of white spruce and the spruce budworm in northern Alberta

Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 1992
Studies on the development of spruce budworm (Choristoneurafumiferana (Clem.)) on white spruce (Piceaglauca (Moench) Voss) were conducted in northern Alberta in 1969 and again in 1990. The phenology of this insect and its host were described using stochastic models.

Bud and crown architecture of white spruce and black spruce

Trees, 2006
Needle primordia in buds and branch lengths were assessed in the crown of a plantation-grown white spruce tree. There was a gradation in needle primordia in buds in branches within the crown. The largest number of primordia was in the terminal bud of the leading main stem shoot, with the number in first-order whorl lateral shoot terminal buds ...

Spruce Budworm Control in a White Spruce Plantation, 1977

Insecticide and Acaricide Tests, 1978
Abstract The test was designed to compare two experimental numbered compounds and a new formulation of Sevin to a standard formulation, Sevimol. Treatments were assigned randomly to three 30 x 30 ft plots marked out in the plantation. Treated plots were separated by 25 ft buffers.

A new hybrid between blue spruce and white spruce

Canadian Journal of Botany, 1969
Controlled pollinations were made within and between blue spruce (Picea pungens Engelm.) and white spruce (Picea glauca (Moench) Voss) in 1967 and 1968. Interspecific hybrids were obtained and verified by comparative measurements of several traits. The cross was successful when either species was used as the female parent.

B Chromosomes in White Spruce

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B. Biological Sciences, 1977
Abstract In Picea glauca, the White Spruce, supernumerary, B chromosomes were found in 48 out of 51 North American populations investigated. The B chromosomes are of two kinds. The more common (B1) is metacentric. The other (B2) has a subterminal centromere.
