McShane-Whitney extensions for fuzzy Lipschitz maps

open access: yesFuzzy Sets and Systems, 2021
[EN] We present a McShane-Whitney extension theorem for real-valued fuzzy Lipschitz maps defined between fuzzy metric spaces. Motivated by the potential applications of the obtained results, we generalize the mathematical theory of extensions of Lipschitz maps to the fuzzy context.

Arcwise Connected Continua and Whitney Maps [PDF]

open access: yesGeorgian Mathematical Journal, 2005
Abstract Let 𝑋 be a non-metric continuum, and 𝐶(𝑋) be the hyperspace of subcontinua of 𝑋. It is known that there is no Whitney map on the hyperspace 2𝑋 for non-metric Hausdorff compact spaces 𝑋. On the other hand, there exist non-metric continua which admit and ones which do not admit a Whitney map for 𝐶(𝑋).

Finitely generated Whitney mappings

Topology and its Applications, 2021
For a metric continuum \(X\) let \(C (X)\) denote the hyperspace of subcontinua of \(X\) with the Hausdorff metric. A Whitney mapping is a continuous function \(\mu : C(X) \to [0, \infty)\) such that: (a) for each \(p \in X\), \(\mu (p) = 0\) and, (b) if \(A,B \in C(X)\) and \(A \subset B\), then \(\mu (A) < \mu (B)\).

Whitney maps and generalized continua

Topology and its Applications, 2023
In this paper the authors use Whitney maps within the class of generalized continua. Besides classical Whitney maps they use a special kind of such maps termed compactwise proper Whitney maps. They consider various types of connectedness and prove that they are Whitney properties.

Elusive Examples of Non-Metrizable Continua which Admit a Whitney Map [PDF]

open access: yesGeorgian Mathematical Journal, 2007
Abstract The main purpose of this paper is to prove that the class of near locally connected continua contains no non-metrizable continuum 𝑋 which admits a Whitney map for 𝐶(𝑋). In particular, each near locally connected continuum 𝑋 which admits a Whitney map for 𝐶(𝑋) is metrizable.
