The native flora of the Redberry Lake Biosphere Region (Saskatchewan, Canada): taxonomy, biogeography, habitats and conservation

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
This study reports for the first time a checklist of native vascular plants and provides a comprehensive analysis of the flora of the Redberry Lake Biosphere Region (RLBR) in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. To complete an inventory of the regional flora, I conducted intensive field investigations during 2010–2025 and employed detailed examination

Metaplectic Whittaker functions and crystal bases

open access: yesDuke Mathematical Journal, 2011
We study Whittaker functions on nonlinear coverings of simple algebraic groups over a non-archimedean local field. We produce a recipe for expressing such a Whittaker function as a weighted sum over a crystal graph, and show that in type A, these expressions agree with known formulae for the prime power supported coefficients of Multiple Dirichlet ...

Not just ‘super‐predators': human behaviour shapes wildlife behavioural responses across avoidance, tolerance and attraction

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Humans are thought to have a disproportionately negative impact on wildlife and are viewed by some as the ultimate ‘super predator'. This view implies that wild animals perceive humans primarily as predators. However, a growing body of evidence shows that wildlife can have remarkable tolerance for, or even attraction to, humans.

Overexploitation can counteract top‐down control and the paradox of enrichment in simple food chains

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Because of its high abundance or its high feeding intensity, a consumer can overexploit its resource by consuming it on a shorter timescale than resource regeneration. While this short‐term overexploitation is widespread in nature, its general implications for biotic control patterns and ecosystem stability are not clear.

ANALYSIS OF SH-WAVES IN ANISOTROPIC FIBER-REINFORCED MEDIUM OVER LINEARLY VARYING INHOMOGENEOUS SUBSTRATE UNDER NON-LOCAL ELASTICITY [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mechanics of Continua and Mathematical Sciences
An analytical technique employing the variable separable method has been used in an attempt to precisely grasp and assess the impact of the property non-local elasticity upon the wave transmission response of an anisotropic fiber-reinforced material ...

An extension of the Whittaker function

open access: yes, 2018
The Whittaker function and its diverse extensions have been actively investigated. Here we introduce an extension of the Whittaker function by using the known extended confluent hypergeometric function $Φ_{p,v}$ and investigate some of its formulas such as integral representations, a transformation formula, Mellin transform, and a differential formula.

Marine trophic architecture and hidden ecological connections in the Strait of Magellan: keystone species and ecosystem resilience

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Understanding the ecological implications of species coexistence is central to biodiversity studies and to identify environmental and anthropogenic drivers of ecosystem dynamics, where ecological network analysis offers valuable insights. This study examines the complexity, structure, and potential responses to disturbances of the Strait of Magellan's ...

Development and Validation of the Prosocial Behavior in School Scale

open access: yesPsychology in the Schools, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study reports on the development, factor structure, and validity indicators of the Prosocial Behavior in School Scale (PBSS) among 4264 sixth‐ to eighth‐grade students in the United States. The final PBSS is a 12‐item self‐report measure of students' prosocial behavior in a specific classroom.

Whittaker-Type Differential Equation: A Solution via Integral Functions

open access: yesAppliedMath
In this study, we consider and analyze an inhomogeneous Whittaker-type differential equation of the form d2y(x)dx2+1xdy(x)dx−α2x2−β2y(x)=g(x), where α and β are given parameters.

Numerical Solution and Simulation of Second-Order Parabolic PDEs with Sinc-Galerkin Method Using Maple

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
An efficient solution algorithm for sinc-Galerkin method has been presented for obtaining numerical solution of PDEs with Dirichlet-type boundary conditions by using Maple Computer Algebra System.
