Metaplectic Whittaker functions and crystal bases

open access: yesDuke Mathematical Journal, 2011
We study Whittaker functions on nonlinear coverings of simple algebraic groups over a non-archimedean local field. We produce a recipe for expressing such a Whittaker function as a weighted sum over a crystal graph, and show that in type A, these expressions agree with known formulae for the prime power supported coefficients of Multiple Dirichlet ...

Not just ‘super‐predators': human behaviour shapes wildlife behavioural responses across avoidance, tolerance and attraction

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Humans are thought to have a disproportionately negative impact on wildlife and are viewed by some as the ultimate ‘super predator'. This view implies that wild animals perceive humans primarily as predators. However, a growing body of evidence shows that wildlife can have remarkable tolerance for, or even attraction to, humans.

Overexploitation can counteract top‐down control and the paradox of enrichment in simple food chains

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Because of its high abundance or its high feeding intensity, a consumer can overexploit its resource by consuming it on a shorter timescale than resource regeneration. While this short‐term overexploitation is widespread in nature, its general implications for biotic control patterns and ecosystem stability are not clear.

On Properties of the Hyperbolic Distribution

open access: yesMathematics
This paper is set to analytically describe properties of the hyperbolic distribution. This law, along with the variance-gamma distribution, is one of the most popular normal mean–variance mixtures from the point of view of various applications.

Inversion of the Poisson-Hankel transform

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1982
The Poisson-Hankel transform is defined as an integral transform of the initial temperature function, with the kernel as the source solution of the generalized heat equation.

Some integrals involving Coulomb functions associated with the three-dimensional proper Lorentz group

open access: yesAIMS Mathematics, 2020
For two continual bases in the representation space, we obtain the matrix elements of the linear operator transforming the first basis into the second. These elements are expressed in terms of Coulomb wave functions.

An extension of the Whittaker function

open access: yes, 2018
The Whittaker function and its diverse extensions have been actively investigated. Here we introduce an extension of the Whittaker function by using the known extended confluent hypergeometric function $Φ_{p,v}$ and investigate some of its formulas such as integral representations, a transformation formula, Mellin transform, and a differential formula.

Marine trophic architecture and hidden ecological connections in the Strait of Magellan: keystone species and ecosystem resilience

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Understanding the ecological implications of species coexistence is central to biodiversity studies and to identify environmental and anthropogenic drivers of ecosystem dynamics, where ecological network analysis offers valuable insights. This study examines the complexity, structure, and potential responses to disturbances of the Strait of Magellan's ...

Whittaker asymptotics of shell-model wave functions for excited states of 13C

open access: yesPhysical Sciences and Technology, 2018
Halo and skin structure of 1/2+, 3/2+, 5/2+ excited states of 13C nucleus is under investigation. The modified radial functions have been constructed basing on the shell model functions. The matching procedure was performed while using the corresponding

Propagation of SH Waves in a Double Non-Homogeneous Crustal Layers of Finite Depth Lying Over an Homogeneous Half-Space

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
The present paper studies the Propagation of SH waves in a double non-homogeneous crustal layers lying over an isotropic homogeneous half-space, where upper layer ((i.e. rigidity and density varying trigonometrically with depth) and intermediate layer (i.
