Drone‐based phenotyping of maize for multiple disease resistance and yield in breeding field trials
Abstract Improving selection for multiple disease resistance (MDR) and yield in maize (Zea mays L.) requires high‐throughput, objective phenotyping tools, particularly under field conditions where several foliar diseases co‐occur. We evaluated drone‐based multispectral vegetation indices (VIs) for predicting resistance to northern leaf blight (NLB ...

Treatment of polypropylene fabric in oxygen plasma was used to impart the fabric surface with more hydrophilic surface properties. Changes in bulk properties were minimal as the modification mainly affected the fabric surface. Bulk fabric properties water retention, moisture content and wicking were monitored over a period of 33 days.

Reconnaissance study of watershed and cave sediment sources discharging from a karst spring, Iowa
Abstract Springs discharging from karst landscapes provide sustainable flows to natural ecosystems and support productive fish hatcheries but sediment discharging from springs threatens the long‐term sustainability of hatcheries. In this study, we conducted a reconnaissance study to evaluate watershed and cave sediment sources discharging to Siewers ...

Pearl millet demonstrates potential as a forage and cover crop in Wisconsin vegetable systems
Abstract Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.), a crop that is recognized for heat and drought tolerance and ability to suppress root‐lesion nematode (Pratylenchus penetrans), could serve as a suitable forage and cover crop for potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) and vegetable production systems in Wisconsin.
