SLoWPoKES: A Catalog of Very Wide, Low-Mass Binary Stars
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009We present initial results from the Sloan Low‐mass Wide Pairs of Kinematically Equivalent Stars (SLoWPoKES) survey, an ongoing effort to identify wide (a>100 AU), low‐mass (mid‐K—mid M) binary systems from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) photometric database. Bochanski et al. (2009, in prep.) have compiled a catalog of more than 33 million low‐mass

The Frequency of Wide Binaries among the Southern Barium Stars
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1988All of the barium and marginal barium stars in the 1972 MacConnell, Frey, and Upgren (1972: MFU) list of such objects which are located south of the celestial equator were examined for visual duplicity. Over 200 objects were observed, and a total of six possible candidates for wide pair visual binaries were found. Of these, four are most likely optical

Wide Binaries among High-Velocity and Metal-Poor Stars
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1999The properties of old disk and halo binaries are of interest for the understanding of the processes of formation and early dynamical evolution of the Galaxy. The luminosity function of the components of wide binaries and multiples, their mass function, the fraction of halo or old disk stars that are members of wide binaries, and the distribution of ...

Searching for Planets Around Stars in Wide Binaries
2007We present the status of the radial velocity planet search ongoing at TNG. We are observing about 50 wide binaries with similar components, searching for planets and abundance anomalies caused by the ingestion of metal-rich planetary material. A by-product of our project is the detection of several new spectroscopic binaries.

The third catalogue of nearby stars with special emphasis on wide binaries
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1988Thirty-six percent of the 1641 visual components nearer than 22.5 parsecs listed in 1969 were members of systems. Meanwhile for an extension to 25 pc of the Sun about 2000 additional objects are found, however, only 22% of them are known today as members of systems. Angular separations are observed from a few tenths of an arcsec to more than one degree.

On statistical distributions of wide binary stars
2017The semi-major axis is a key parameter of binary stellar systems. In order to obtain current semi-major axis distribution we investigated a volume-limited sample of the binaries in solar neighbourhood. Obtained distribution shows unsatisfactory agreement with the canonical Opik's law.
