In Hyphomicrobium denitrificans, the use of thiosulfate as a supplemental electron donor is regulated by two homologous sulfane‐sulfur responsive ArsR‐type transcriptional repressors, sHdrR and SoxR, that act cooperatively. Remarkably, the regulation by sHdrR/SoxR extends far beyond sulfur oxidation and deeply affects anaerobic metabolism, particularly

The Dynamics of Fast and Slow Earthquake Ruptures in Viscoelastic Materials
Abstract Classical theories using linear elasticity predict that crack propagation asymptotically approaches a limiting speed, beyond which the energy balance becomes unphysical. However, geophysical and laboratory observations show that ruptures can propagate at either a very low, stable speed or a significantly high speed.

Irreversible Investment under L\'evy Uncertainty: an Equation for the Optimal Boundary [PDF]
We derive a new equation for the optimal investment boundary of a general irreversible investment problem under exponential L\'evy uncertainty. The problem is set as an infinite time-horizon, two-dimensional degenerate singular stochastic control problem.

Abstract Studies of cold‐active enzymes may elucidate the basis for low‐temperature activity and contribute to their wider application in energy‐efficient processes. Here we investigate the cold‐active GH2 β‐galactosidase from the psychrophilic bacterium Alkalilactibacillus ikkensis (AiLac).

Topological coordination numbers and coordination reciprocity from electron‐density distributions
An approach is presented to calculate topological coordination numbers (tCNs) obeying the principle of coordination reciprocity from solid angles subtended by the interatomic surfaces of electron density (QTAIM) atomic domains. The tCN approach characterizes a compound's coordination situation as a set of sub‐coordination scenarios with associated ...

The approximate solution of Wiener-Hopf integral equations
AbstractThis paper develops an explicit approximate method of solving the integral equation (∗) f(x) = ∫0∞ h1(x − t)f(t) dt + g(x), x > 0, where g(x), h1(x) ϵ L1(R) ∩ L2(R),f(x) = g(x) = 0 if x < 0. The approximate solution depends upon 2 parameters, h > 0 and k ϵ (0, 1).

In this article, hybrid probabilistic and geometric constellation shaping to enhance spectral efficiency in coherent optical communication systems, particularly under a Wiener phase noise channel, is investigated. By integrating a two‐stage phase search algorithm with digital signal processing and gradient descent, the method outperforms geometrically ...

Asymptotics of block Toeplitz determinants with piecewise continuous symbols
Abstract We determine the asymptotics of the block Toeplitz determinants detTn(ϕ)$\det T_n(\phi)$ as n→∞$n\rightarrow \infty$ for N×N$N\times N$ matrix‐valued piecewise continuous functions ϕ$\phi$ with a finitely many jumps under mild additional conditions.
