WiFi localization in 3D

2016 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), 2016
Localization of mobile robots can be challenging in highly dynamic environments (airport terminals, stores, hospitals) yet these areas offer great potential for robotics applications. HighWiFi coverage provides a way to localize even low-cost robots that do not need to be equipped with expensive exteroceptive sensors or excessive computational power to

WiFi positioning overview

International Journal of Communication Networks and Distributed Systems, 2011
As the swift development and deployment of WiFi networking infrastructure with the lower price to provide the wider coverage, WiFi-based positioning approaches have been one of the 'best practices' in both outdoor and indoor environment. In this paper, an overview of various approaches for WiFi-based positioning is presented. The WiFi-based positioning

WiFi networks on drones

2016 ITU Kaleidoscope: ICTs for a Sustainable World (ITU WT), 2016
The huge growth in the number of connected wireless devices leads to an increasing demand for network connectivity. In this context, aerial networks may play an important role by widening the concept of access networks. This paper describes and analyzes one of the most promising applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, commonly known as drones, in the

Audio-WiFi

ACM SIGMOBILE Mobile Computing and Communications Review, 2013
Wi-Fi is becoming widely popular network interface for data communication in smart phones because of it’s high throughput, power efficiency and relatively larger range. However, the Wi-Fi network still has some perturbation such as high consumption of energy and bandwidth for detecting the contention and collision, energy consumption in idle state for ...

WiFi-Nano

Proceedings of the 17th annual international conference on Mobile computing and networking, 2011
The increase in WiFi physical layer transmission speeds from 1~Mbps to 1 Gbps has reduced transmission times for a 1500 byte packet from 12 ms to 12 us. However, WiFi MAC overheads such as channel access and acks have not seen similar reductions and cumulatively contribute about 150 us on average per packet.

A Case for WiFi Relay: Improving VoIP Quality for WiFi Users

2010 IEEE International Conference on Communications, 2010
Voice over Internet (VoIP) has been experiencing enormous growth in recent years. While posed to replace traditional PSTN for both enterprise and residential customers, VoIP has yet to achieve the same level of quality and reliability as PSTN. One key challenge is that a growing segment of customers is increasingly relying on WiFi connections.
