One of Mexico’s most emblematic and economically important plants is the poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima). After nearly 200 years of poinsettia cultivation outside Mexico, more than 300 varieties of many different sizes, shapes and colors have been generated.

Abstract Wild poinsettia (Euphorbia geniculata Ortega) is an annual noxious weed that is considered as a substantial problem in irrigated field crops and orchards in Israel. The effect of environmental factors on germination and emergence of a local wild poinsettia population was examined in growth chambers and greenhouse experiments, and its ...

AbstractDetermining the mode of action of allelochemicals is one of the challenging aspects in the allelopathic studies. In this research, the methanolic extracts of wild poinsettia (Euphorbia heterophyllaLinn.) at different concentrations (0, as untreated control, 8%, 12% and 16%) were tested for genotoxic and inhibitor activity on morphological ...

In field studies conducted in Louisiana in 1990 and 1991, area of influence, density, and duration of interference methodologies were used to evaluate wild poinsettia (Eupborbia heterophylla L.) interference in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.).

Germination of Wild Poinsettia(Euphorbia heterophylla)
Weed Science, 1978Germination studies were conducted on seed of wild poinsettia(Euphorbia heterophyllaL.) collected in 1974 and 1975. Significant differences in germination existed between the seedlots. An alternating temperature regime of 25/35 C was optimum for germination, and no effect of light was noted at this temperature regime.

The use of wild poinsettia (Euphorbia heterophylla) is known as a traditional medicinal ingredient. The potential of this plant is the latex which can be used as a protease enzyme and the leaves can be used as herbal tea or tea infusion. To provide the potential of dried wild poinsettia, the total phenols and antioxidant capacity were measured by the ...

High infestations of alexandergrass (Brachiaria plantaginea) in experimental area have reduced seedbank of some weed species in soil at a greater degree compared to those obtained with the use of an efficient herbicide. Aconitic acid (AA) has been identified in those plants in high concentration. Thus, two experiments were carried out in the laboratory

Wild Poinsettia (Euphorbia heterophylla) Germination and Emergence
Weed Science, 1995Wild poinsettia germination was at least 95% when exposed to solution pH of 2.5 to 10 or solution osmotic potential of up to −0.8 MPa. No germination was observed at pH 12 or osmotic potential of −1.5 MPa. Light was not required for germination. Seed germinated at temperatures ranging from 20 to 40 C with maximum germination of 97% at 35 C.

Wild Poinsettia (Euphorbia heterophylla) Interference by Peanut (Arachis hypogaea)
Weed Science, 1992Research was conducted during 1988 and 1989 in Georgia and Florida to determine the densitydependent effects and critical periods of wild poinsettia interference with peanut. Peanut yield loss ranged from 0 to approximately 50% over the wild poinsettia density range from 0 to 32 plants 9 m−1peanut row.
