First Report of Enterocytozoon bieneusi, Encephalitozoon spp. and Blastocystis spp. in Hair Goats in Türkiye

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Blastocystis spp., Enterocytozoon bieneusi and Encephalitozoon spp. are prevalent zoonotic gastrointestinal parasites that cause severe diarrhoea and enteric diseases in humans and animals worldwide. Comparison of two competitive ELISAs for the detection of specific peste-des-petits-ruminant antibodies in sheep and cattle populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Peste-des-petits-ruminant (PPR) continues to be a major problem of small ruminants in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The closely related paramyxovirus causing rinderpest (RP) has been largely eradicated by a global vaccination campaign.

Histological Findings in Testes of Baboons (Papio spp.) and Dwarf Bucks (Capra hircus) Subject to Repeated Immunisation Against GnRH

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
Long‐term repeated immunisation against GnRH resulted in the absence of active spermatogenesis and may lead to irreversible infertility in dwarf bucks and baboons. Histological examination revealed a marked reduction of the seminiferous tubular lumen, complete depletion of germ cells, germ cell vacuolization and tubular hyalinization.

No Trace of Blastocystis Parasite in Bats Caught in the Western and Southwestern Regions of Iran

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
Despite screening 115 bats across four dominant species (Miniopterus pallidus, Myotis blythii, Rhinopoma microphyllum, and Rhinolophus euryale) from five caves in western and southwestern Iran using PCR, no evidence of Blastocystis infection was found, suggesting these bats are not current reservoirs for this parasite in this region.

Humans are not unique: difficult birth is common in placental mammals

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 5, Page 2214-2239, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Human childbirth is widely presumed to be uniquely difficult and dangerous compared to birth in other mammals. Tight fetopelvic proportions can result in obstructed labour and contribute to high rates of maternal and neonatal mortality. Ideas summarised under the ‘obstetrical dilemma’ have contributed to this assumption by explaining difficult
