Optimization of the Resources Management in Fighting Wildfires

Environmental Management, 2002
Wildfires lead to important economic, social, and environmental losses, especially in areas of Mediterranean climate where they are of a high intensity and frequency. Over the past 30 years there has been a dramatic surge in the development and use of fire spread models.

Managing a Crisis in Virtual Reality - Tackling a Wildfire

Proceedings of the 27th ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology, 2021
In this paper we present a virtual reality application, where multiple users can observe and interact with a portion of geo-referenced terrain where a real wildfire took place. The application presents a layout with two maps, one is a three-dimensional view with terrain elevation and the other is a conventional two-dimensional view.

Pyrophysiology and Wildfire Management

2020
In this chapter we further discuss how can pyrophysiology assist us with wildfire management. The overall objective of wildfire management is to reduce the risk to human lives and properties while maintaining the role of fire as a natural process in ecosystems.

Management of wildfires with a geographical information system

International journal of geographical information systems, 1992
Abstract Wildfires pose a constant threat to natural resources, endangered species, human property and even human lives. Effective management of wildfires requires a thorough understanding of the environmental and human related factors that are important to wildfires, as well as the complex spatial relationships among them.

Studying the Synoptic Wildfire Climatology in Greece. Implications to Wildfire Management

2016
In this work, the wildfire synoptic climatology in Greece is studied through the COST-733 classification schemes. Specifically, wildfires are linked to synoptic circulations patterns, in an attempt to reveal the most fire-prone conditions in the area. The analysis reveals that the majority of wildfires are dominated by a combination of high atmospheric

Climatology for Wildfire Management

2008
Forest and wildfire managers in the western United States are very familiar with weather information and forecasts provided by various public and private sources . Even very sophisticated users of these products, however, may be less familiar with climate information and forecasts and their applications . Partly this is because the scientific community

Risk assessment and management of wildfires

2013
Background Introduction: Wildfires are dramatic and can be highly destructive, yet palaeoenvironmental records show that fire has been a part of the earth’s natural environment for hundreds of millions of years (Bowman et al., 2009). Some ecological systems in drought-prone climates have adapted to frequent wildfires.
