Living on the edge: Habitat characteristics of northern myotis at the periphery of its distribution

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Northern myotis selected tall trees with minimal decay, in patches with other roosting options. In our study area, these trees occurred in narrow bands within an agricultural matrix, differing from contiguous forest at the core of the species' distribution. Nevertheless, bats selected the tallest trees in the densest patches available.

Landscape drivers of scaled quail occurrence across a broad spatiotemporal scale: implications for habitat management

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Combining large‐scale avian surveys with remote sensing products revealed landscape variables that likely limit scaled quail occurrence at the ecoregion scale in Texas. Promoting management practices that address ecoregion‐specific limiting factors may be key to averting further declines.

First Molecular Evidence of Hepatozoon spp. in the Mexican Black-Tailed Rattlesnake (Crotalus molossus nigrescens) from an Urban Ecological Reserve in Central Mexico

open access: yesParasitologia
Species of the genus Hepatozoon are among the most widespread haemogregarine parasites infecting reptiles; however, information regarding their occurrence in native snakes from Mexico remains scarce.

Evaluation of the marking duration of iophenoxic acid (IPA) derivatives in raccoons (Procyon lotor)

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We evaluated the marking duration and intensity of iophenoxic acid (IPA) analogues in raccoon (Procyon lotor) serum following consumption of test doses encapsulated in a marshmallow or formulated into an oral rabies vaccine bait matrix. The IPA biomarkers demonstrated utility for evaluation of oral rabies vaccination baiting strategies targeting ...

Cutting through the noise: What can habitat selection modeling teach us about caribou‐fire space use dynamics?

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We synthesize the current knowledge regarding caribou habitat selection in relation to wildfires. Caribou responses to recent burns were generally weak and highly variable across subspecies or ecotypes, suggesting that post‐fire habitat selection is likely context‐dependent and the need for regionally adapted habitat management strategies.

Aerial Seeding for Forest and Landscape Restoration: A Systematic Review of Technology, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Land degradation is a critical global challenge, threatening biodiversity, food security, and livelihoods. Ecological restoration has therefore become a priority, with aerial seeding emerging as a key method to address issues of scale, accessibility, and efficiency. By dispersing seeds from aircraft or drones, aerial seeding complements ground‐
