Williams expansion utilized for assessment of crack behaviour under mixed‐mode loading in alkali‐activated fine‐grained composite

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 2021
AbstractThe paper concerns an experimental study on the crack deflection angle in a semi‐circular disc made of an alkali‐activated fine‐grained composite under mixed‐mode conditions. This study is supplemented by an extensive numerical analysis that calculates the crack deflection angles via generalized (multi‐parameter) fracture criteria. It is proved

Digital image correlation method for calculating coefficients of Williams expansion in compact tension specimen

Optics and Lasers in Engineering, 2017
Abstract The digital image correlation (DIC) method is used to obtain the coefficients of higher-order terms in the Williams expansion in a compact tension (CT) specimens made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The displacement field is determined by the correlation between reference image (i.e., before deformation) and deformed image.

On the loci of exactness for truncated Williams crack-tip stress expansions

International Journal of Fracture
Williams asymptotic expansions are widely used to represent mechanical fields at the vicinity of crack-tips in plane elastic media. For practical applications, series solutions have to be truncated and it is believed that a better accuracy can be achieved by retaining more terms in the summations.

Complete Williams Asymptotic Expansion near the Crack Tips of Collinear Cracks of Equal Lengths in an Infinite Plane

Solid State Phenomena, 2016
The present study is aimed at analytical determination of coefficients in crack tip expansion for two collinear finite cracks of equal lengths in an infinite plane medium. The study is based on the solutions of the complex variable theory in plane elasticity theory.

The Unpredictable America of William Gwin: Expansion, Secession, and the Unstable Borders of Nineteenth-Century North America

The Journal of the Civil War Era, 2016
In 1865, while the United States struggled to reconstruct itself, war raged in Mexico between invading French forces supporting Emperor Maximilian and partisans of Benito Juarez's republican government. The uncertain futures of the United States and Mexico underscored the instability of the boundaries that the two nations had drawn across North America
