The Relationship Between Pre‐ and Post‐Migration Self‐Employment: Evidence From Italy and Spain

open access: yesInternational Migration, Volume 64, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The home‐country self‐employment hypothesis, widely accepted in migration research, posits that immigrants from countries with high self‐employment rates are more likely to become self‐employed. However, supporting evidence remains limited. Recent studies highlight the importance of individual pre‐migration experience, but such evidence is ...

Fine Tuning Eruption Source Parameters to Improve Ash Dispersion Simulations: An Example From Eyjafjallajökull 2010

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 130, Issue 24, 28 December 2025.
Abstract Volcanic ash dispersion simulations and remote sensing of ash clouds are conducted by volcano observatories and Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres to monitor and forecast the evolution of volcanic ash clouds in space and time in order to mitigate the risk posed by these events on civil aviation.

Spectral Analysis of Certain Schrödinger Operators

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2012
The J-matrix method is extended to difference and q-difference operators and is applied to several explicit differential, difference, q-difference and second order Askey-Wilson type operators.

Navigating Transition Metal‐Dependent Cell Death: Mechanisms, Crosstalk, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 46, December 11, 2025.
Transition metals trigger distinct regulated cell death pathways beyond traditional apoptosis. This review examines ferroptosis (iron‐catalyzed lipid peroxidation) and cuproptosis (copper‐induced mitochondrial proteotoxicity), while exploring hypothetical “cobaltosis” as a novel pathway.

Addition formulas for q-special functions

open access: yes, 1995
A general addition formula for a two-parameter family of Askey-Wilson polynomials is derived from the quantum $SU(2)$ group theoretic interpretation. This formula contains most of the previously known addition formulas for $q$-Legendre polynomials as ...

Nonsymmetric Askey–Wilson polynomials and Q-polynomial distance-regular graphs

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, 2017
In his famous theorem (1982), Douglas Leonard characterized the $q$-Racah polynomials and their relatives in the Askey scheme from the duality property of $Q$-polynomial distance-regular graphs. In this paper we consider a nonsymmetric (or Laurent) version of the $q$-Racah polynomials in the above situation.

Ventilatory Complexity Persists in Phox2b Mutant Mice Lacking the Retrotrapezoid Nucleus/Parafacial Respiratory Group (RTN/pFRG) and in Humans With Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 533, Issue 12, December 2025.
Phox2B mutant mice and patients with congenital central hypoventilation syndrome exhibit ventilatory variability and complexity comparable to those of controls, suggesting that the RTN/pFRG nucleus is not required for brainstem central pattern generators to generate complex breathing.
