Numerical simulation of the airflow–rivulet interaction associated with the rain-wind induced vibration phenomenon

open access: yes, 2011
Rain-wind induced vibration is an aeroelastic phenomenon that occurs on the inclined cables of cable-stayed bridges. The vibrations are believed to be caused by a complicated nonlinear interaction between rivulets of rain water that run down the cables ...

Relation between vibrotactile perception thresholds and reductions in finger blood flow induced by vibration of the hand at frequencies in the range 8–250 Hz [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Purpose: this study investigated how the vasoconstriction induced by vibration depends on the frequency of vibration when the vibration magnitude is defined by individual thresholds for perceiving vibration [i.e.

Wind-Tunnel Investigation of the Aerodynamic Performance of Surface-Modification Cables

open access: yesEngineering, 2017
The wind-induced vibration of stay cables of cable-stayed bridges, which includes rain-wind-induced vibration (RWIV) and dry galloping (DG), has been studied for a considerable amount of time.

Influence of Vibration Dampers on the Vortex-Induced Force and Flow Characteristic of Deep-Water Jacket Pipe

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Vibration dampers are widely used in power transmission line vibration reduction. In order to use them for wind-induced vortex-induced vibration (VIV) suppression of jacket pipes, the effect of the vibration dampers on the vortex-induced force is studied

Vibration serviceability of footbridges under human-induced excitation : a literature review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Increasing strength of new structural materials and longer spans of new footbridges, accompanied with aesthetic requirements for greater slenderness, are resulting in more lively footbridge structures.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Wind-induced lateral-torsional coupled responses of tall buildings

open access: yes, 2011
Based on the empirical formulas for power spectra of generalized modal forces and local fluctuating wind forces in across-wind and torsional directions, the wind-induced lateral-torsional coupled response analysis of a representative rectangular tall ...

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Nonstationarity analysis in wind-rain-induced vibration of stay cables

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2012
Wind and wind-rain-induced cable vibration are usually nonstationary. Based on the field measured wind data from the Dongting Lake Bridge (DLB) in China, a wavelet-based method was developed to investigate the wind characteristics of wind-rain-induced ...
