Wind-structure interaction simulations for the prediction of ovalling vibrations in silo groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Wind-induced ovalling vibrations were observed during a storm in October 2002 on several empty silos of a closely spaced group consisting of 8 by 5 thin-walled silos in the port of Antwerp (Belgium).

Vibration-Based Damage Detection in Wind Turbine Blades using Phase-Based Motion Estimation and Motion Magnification

open access: yes, 2018
Vibration-based Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) techniques are among the most common approaches for structural damage identification. The presence of damage in structures may be identified by monitoring the changes in dynamic behavior subject to ...

Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion

The Influence of Chamfered and Rounded Corners on Vortex-Induced Vibration of Super-Tall Buildings

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
In order to study the influence of chamfered and rounded corners on vortex-induced vibration of super-tall buildings, a series of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF, in short) aeroelastic models were made, including chamfered-corner models with chamfer ratios

Numerical simulation of rivulet evolution on a circular cylinder in an airflow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
On wet and windy days, the inclined cables of cable-stayed bridges may experience a large amplitude oscillation known as Rain-Wind-Induced Vibration (RWIV).

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Performance Evaluation of Inerter-Based Dynamic Vibration Absorbers for Wind-Induced Vibration Control of a Desulfurization Tower

open access: yesBuildings
High-rise flue gas desulfurization towers are susceptible to wind loads, which can cause instability and failure in the along-wind and across-wind directions.

An experimental and finite element study of the low-cycle fatigue failure of a galvanised steel lighting column [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper presents the results of a low-cycle fatigue test on a lighting column. The wind induced vibration phenomena responsible for low cycle fatigue in such structures is discussed and the failure mechanism is examined.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.
