Wind Tunnel Experiments with Rotating Disks

2016
Investigating convective heat transfer from a rotating disk subjected to streams of air requires placing a heated disk apparatus in the test section of a wind tunnel. This approach was employed for the first time by Dennis et al. [1] in 1970. Although this general experimental approach is fairly straightforward, the performance of accurate measurements

Wind tunnel simulation experiment of mountain dunes

Journal of Arid Environments, 1999
Abstract Mountain dunes can be categorized as echo dunes, climbing dunes and falling dunes. Their formation, development and movement are relative to sand source, flowfield near the ground, angle of mountain slope and ground subsisted environment. Through field observation and wind tunnel simulation, this paper discusses the physical mechanisms at ...

Wind tunnel apparatus for translational oscillation experiments

18th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1980
A full-model translational oscillation apparatus has been developed for the wind-tunnel determination, in a wide speed range, of all three moment derivatives due to translational acceleration. The apparatus can be employed, in principle, for both vertical and horizontal oscillation experiments and can be used, therefore, to obtain moment derivatives ...

Wind-tunnel experiment on dust dry deposition

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2013
The PDPA technique is applied in a wind-tunnel experiment on dust dry deposition. Dust deposition velocity is derived from the PDPA measurements over four different (water, wood, sand and tree) surfaces. A reliable dataset is obtained for the validation of dust deposition schemes. It is found that the deposition velocities for particles larger than 0.5

Chapter 5: VAWT wind tunnel experiments

2021
Experimental testing is an essential part of the wind turbine design path, as it provides early information about aerodynamics, mechanics, performance, and turbine control. According to the size and the budget or the certification purposes, the testing environment can be either natural through field testing, or controlled in dedicated facilities called

Anomaly Detection in Aeroacoustic Wind Tunnel Experiments

2023
Wind tunnel experiments often employ a wide variety and large number of sensor systems. Anomalous measurements occurring without the knowledge of the researcher can be devastating to the success of costly experiments; therefore, anomaly detection is of great interest to the wind tunnel community.

Wind tunnel experiments on fog collectors

2001
The problem of wake geometry caharacterization downstream of a vertical permeable surface, collecting fog, is investigated in a wind tunnel, physically modeling the collector at 1:100 scale.
