Predicting the energy output of wind farms based on weather data: important variables and their correlation

open access: yes, 2013
Pre-print available at: http://arxiv.org/abs/1109.1922Wind energy plays an increasing role in the supply of energy world wide. The energy output of a wind farm is highly dependent on the weather conditions present at its site.

Wakes in very large wind farms and the effect of neighbouring wind farms

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2014
We present the first analysis of wake losses in some of the largest offshore wind farms built to date. In addition, we give an example of the external wake losses that can be imposed by a neighbouring wind farm. Both situations lend insights to the wake phenomena in large offshore wind farm clusters.

Wind Farm Cluster Wakes

open access: yes
10391076The last couple of decades have seen developments of large wind farms partly in close distance forming “wind farm clusters.” Those wind farm clusters often consists of several hundreds of wind turbines which interact with the atmospheric boundary

Wind farm production estimates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, the Dynamic Wake Meandering (DWM) model is applied for simulation of wind farm production. In addition to the numerical simulations, measured data have been analyzed in order to provide the basis for a full-scale verification of the model ...

Optimization of the Offshore Wind Turbines Layout Using Cuckoo Search Algorithm

open access: yesJournal of Techniques
Wind turbines have gained popularity as one of the efficient micro grid energy generation sources over the years. However, wind energy yield has been greatly impacted by the wind farm wake effect, especially when the size of the wind farm becomes very ...
