What does a poor agricultural county in the State of Washington, USA, known primarily for its wheat fields, cattle, and a scattered population, do when it sees wind projects going up in its neighbouring counties? It moves one step ahead, designs a “clean energy” economic development zone and invites the developers in!

IEE Half-day Colloquium on Lightning Protection of Wind Turbines, 1997
This paper examines the use of computer modelling to assess the suitability of windfarm grounding systems for protection against power system faults and lightning strikes. The transient behaviour of practical earthing system designs are presented using the general purpose EMTP program and the specialist CDEGS grounding analysis software.

Wind farm design - When other wind farms are close [PDF]
This work presents an approach to evaluate the wind climate in a location close to another wind farm. It is shown that the effect of the upstream wind farm can be expressed in various impact parameters, and that these can be determined by using a dedicated planetary boundary layer solver.

In the future, wind energy will be playing a dominant role in raising the share of renewables in electricity generation. This will significantly reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and the use of fossil fuels. Land use limitations in areas with high population density are hindering the installation of new large wind farms. Offshore, however, there is

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 1995
The economics of wind energy are changing rapidly, with improvements in machine performance and increases in size both contributing to reduce costs. These trends are examined and future costs assessed. Although the United Kingdom has regions of high wind speed, these are often in difficult terrain and construction costs are often higher than elsewhere
