An analysis of current and future wind energy gain potential for central Iowa

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Engineering, 2015
Using a significant quantity of fossil fuels has adverse impacts on our lives and will affect future generations. Additionally, there are limited and decreasing numbers of nonrenewable resources around the world.

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Determination of wind turbine far wake using actuator disk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The growth in size of wind turbines over the last years is significant. The rotor diameter becomes somehow comparable to atmospheric boundary layer at the land surface. In this case the assumption of uniform velocity of upcoming wind cannot be valid. The

Simulation of wind speed and wind turbine yield time series by a meso-micro downscaling approach

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift
An efficient method to simulate time series of wind speed and wind turbine electricity generation on a microscale grid resolution is described. Speed-up factors are simulated by the microscale model Meteodyn for 12 wind direction sectors and 10 stability

L‐aspartate oxidase provides new insights into fumarate reduction in anaerobic darkness in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

CDM potential of wind power projects in India [PDF]

open access: yes
So far, the cumulative installed capacity of wind power projects in India is far below their gross potential (È 15%) despite very high level of policy support, tax benefits, long term financing schemes etc, for more than 10 years etc.

Wind power potential assessment of Kano, Nigeria

open access: yes2017 North American Power Symposium (NAPS), 2017
This paper investigates wind power potential assessment of Kano, located at North-Western region of Nigeria where the wind is highly variable and energy demand is high. Weibull probability density function is used to analyze Kano wind speed data obtained from Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Optimal Management of a Wind/CAES Power Plant by means of Neural Network Wind Speed Forecast

open access: yes, 2007
Some of the major limitations of renewable energy sources are represented by their low power density and intermittent nature, largely depending upon local site and unpredictable weather conditions. These problems concur to increase the unit costs of wind
