Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

A novel OPF analysis for optimizing wind power curtailment in AC/multi-terminal VSC-HVDC systems under frequency constraints

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
A novel optimal power flow formulation for AC/multi-terminal voltage-source converter-based high-voltage direct-current systems is developed to calculate the wind power curtailment level considering frequency constraints. The objective function minimizes

Voltage security regions considering wind power curtailment to prevent cascading trip faults in wind power integration areas

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, 2016
Hundreds of cascading trip faults have occurred in recent years in Chinese wind farms, leading to challenges in the secure operation of the power system. To prevent cascading trip faults, the concept of a voltage security region (VSR) has been discussed in previous studies.

Composition‐Tuned Enhancement of the Anomalous Nernst Effect in FeCo–Pt Thin Films on Rigid and Flexible Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

Minimizing the Impact of Intermittent Wind Power on Multiperiod Power System Operation with Pumped Hydro Generation

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In power system operations, unforeseen energy imbalances commonly occur, resulting in unexpected constraints on the system. This leads to a disturbance in normal operation.

System operational costs reduction with non-conventional reactive power sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Wind energy installations are increasing in power systems worldwide and wind generation capacity tends to be located some distance from load centers. A conflict may arise at times of high wind generation when it becomes necessary to curtail wind energy ...

Wind power curtailment and energy storage in transmission congestion management considering power plants ramp rates

open access: yes2015 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2015
The integration of intermittent generation in power grids, such as wind energy, imposes new challenges for transmission congestion management. In order to solve this problem, energy storage systems (ESS) have been proposed in the literature, as they provide an efficient mechanism for balancing variability while reducing operational costs.

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Thermophysical Properties of the Desulphurization Slags With Various CaS and CaO/Al2O3 Ratio

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates how CaS content and the CaO/Al2O3 ratio influence the thermophysical properties of desulphurization slags. Using experimental measurements and thermodynamic simulations, this study reveals complex effects on viscosity, surface tension, and density, providing new insight into slag structure and phase behavior under ...

Life cycle environmental impacts and emission reduction pathways of wind power in western China: A scenario-based assessment

open access: yesGeography and Sustainability
Compared with traditional energy sources, wind power has a lower environmental impact. However, emissions are still generated across the life cycle of wind turbines, from production to recycling.
