Wind energy is converted into electric power via wing sails moving on rails. A linear generator/motor is split between the rail and carriage, where the linear stator is integrated in the rail track. Each carriage contains a part of the linear rotor. The acceleration/deceleration of each carriage is controlled by adjusting the electrical power input ...

Solar & Wind Technology, 1990
Abstract In order to meet the growing energy demand, natural energy sources like water, sun and wind should be used as much as possible because of their advantages of being clean, inexpensive and renewable. This paper presents an entirely new system of wind turbine, which allows a radical increase of wind potential in the north-eastern wind called ...

Wind turbine power plant control
2016 Dynamics of Systems, Mechanisms and Machines (Dynamics), 2016In this paper we proposed multi-stage algorithm of small wind turbine power plant control when it supports maximum extracted power independently on traditional tip speed ratio using the wind speed. We made measurements of wind turbine parameters on urban and prairie territories, showed the necessity of power controlling the turbine, and vindicated the ...

Economics of wind power plants
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1988Abstract A study is being carried out by Holland Windturbine B.V. concerning the economics of wind power plants. Detailed analyses are made of the costs and energy production of wind turbines. From these analyses optimum turbine parameters are derived.

Wind-Powered Electric Utility Plants
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1976This paper describes the general operating modes of wind-powered electric utility plants under constant-speed or variable speed classifications. It is shown that for a particular set of wind frequency–velocity spectra there are a number of attractive system configurations, so far as total yearly energy production is concerned.

Reactive power compensation for wind power plants
2009 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2009This technical paper provides the basic guidelines for the application of reactive compensation systems to be used as part of a wind power plant. A brief history of wind plant reactive compensation system is discussed, then the fundamental needs of why reactive compensation is required.

Power electronic converter for wind power plant
2012 International Conference on Computing, Electronics and Electrical Technologies (ICCEET), 2012During the last few years, power electronics have undergone a fast evolution, which is mainly due to two factors. The first one is the development of fast semiconductor switches that are capable of switching quickly and handling high current/voltage. The second factor is the introduction of real-time computer controllers that can implement advanced and

Power Fluctuations in an Isolated Wind Plant
IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 2004In this paper, a wind energy converter (WEC) model for the analysis of power fluctuations at an isolated wind plant is presented. The model includes the drive train dynamics, a first-order model for the asynchronous generator, and the power controller.

The North American experience in wind park construction tends to large installations, with numerous turbines aggregated in tens, to hundreds, of megawatts. This approach differs significantly from the European experience, where small clusters of only several turbines are more uniformly dispersed over the landscape.
