Impact of Time Resolution on Curtailment Losses in Hybrid Wind-Solar PV Plants

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Curtailment losses for large-scale hybrid wind–solar photovoltaic (PV) plants with a single grid connection point are often calculated in 1 h time resolution, underestimating the actual curtailment losses due to the flattening of power peaks occurring in

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Conv‐ELSTM: An ensemble deep learning approach for predicting short‐term wind power

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation
Accurate and reliable forecasting of wind power is essential for the stable integration of wind energy into the electrical grid. However, the chaotic nature of wind power presents a significant challenge in utilizing data for effective short‐term ...

Failure rate and downtime survey of wind turbines located in Spain

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, 2021
Publicly available wind turbine failure rate and downtime studies are scarce in the scientific literature. Recent surveys in the field reveal that only 20 studies of wind farms based in Europe, Asia and the U.S.

Wind Energy: Harnessing the Wind to Generate Electricity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Key facts: - The spinning blades of wind turbines convert energy from the wind's motion into electricity. - Installed US wind power plants had 6,740 megawatts (MW) of electrical capacity in 2004, enough to serve 1.6 million households. - The cost of wind

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Adaptive Robust Nonlinear Optimal Sliding Mode Control for Wind Turbines: A Hybrid OHAM‐Based Approach to Maximize Power Capture

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation
In this article, we propose an adaptive robust nonlinear optimal sliding mode control (SMC) using the optimal homotopy asymptotic method (RNOSC‐OHAM) for maximizing wind power capture.

The stabilizing effect of hydro reservoir levels on intraday power prices under wind forecast errors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The power system has to deal with three main sources of uncertainty: demand uncertainty and load prediction errors, failure of power plants and uncertainty of wind.

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.
