Wind shear characteristics of local winds
2009The paper deals with the investigations of wind characteristics of local winds in the coastal area of Croatia. The measurements of wind speed and direction were carried out on an antenna column at heights of 10, 20 and 35 m. The objective of these measurements was to determine the wind characteristics for dominant winds (bura, jugo, levant) according ...

Wind Shear Extremes at Possible Offshore Wind Turbine Locations
Wind Engineering, 2003Positive and negative short-term extreme wind shear distributions (conditioned on the mean wind speed) are determined and compared for a number of offshore sites. The analysis is based on rapidly sampled field measurements (1–8 Hz) extracted from the “Database on Wind Characteristics” ( www.winddata.com ).

Research of Wind Shear Dynamic Characteristics of Wind Wheels
Advanced Materials Research, 2014In order to accurately analysis the aerodynamic characteristic variations of wind turbines under shear, the influence of axial and shear on the aerodynamic characteristic of a horizontal-axis wind turbine is simulated in this paper by using a sliding grid method based on FlowVision.

Wind shear at tilted inversions
Boundary-Layer Meteorology, 1991Vertical wind shear at a temperature inversion can be caused by baroclinicity associated with a tilt of the inversion. Four observational cases of tilted inversions are presented. The tilts on horizontal scales of 20–100 km range from 2–10 × 10-3 and the vertical wind shear is between 1 and 25 m/s per 100 m.

Effects of Vertical Wind Shear
2011The effects of vertical wind shear on convective development have been examined for decades (e.g., Pastushkov 1975; Corbosiero and Molinari 2002; Lang et al. 2007; Ueno 2007). The delayed initiation of convection is associated with a strong vertical wind shear (e.g., Xu et al. 1992).

Sources and Detection of Atmospheric Wind Shear
AIAA Journal, 1981This paper outlines a range of phenomena producing significant atmospheric wind shears, providing more details on the shears related to thunderstorm gust fronts. A case study from a wintertime Colorado front-range experiment during 1980 documents strong wind gradients that can occur in the lees of mountains.

Stratospheric Turbulence from Wind Shears.
1982Abstract : A statistical analysis of smoke trail velocity profiles and balloon velocity profiles has been carried out to evaluate and remove their inherent noise content. The day-to-day variability in the probability of exceeding critical shear was evaluated.
