Research of Wind Shear Dynamic Characteristics of Wind Wheels

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
In order to accurately analysis the aerodynamic characteristic variations of wind turbines under shear, the influence of axial and shear on the aerodynamic characteristic of a horizontal-axis wind turbine is simulated in this paper by using a sliding grid method based on FlowVision.

Effect of vertical wind shear on flicker in wind farm

2013 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference: South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS), 2013
Scarcity of electric power, in developing countries like India, demands more generation of electric power. The conventional means of generating power are much time consuming and hence it is necessary to utilize renewable energy sources like wind, solar etc. Wind is intermittent in nature.

Wind shear at tilted inversions

Boundary-Layer Meteorology, 1991
Vertical wind shear at a temperature inversion can be caused by baroclinicity associated with a tilt of the inversion. Four observational cases of tilted inversions are presented. The tilts on horizontal scales of 20–100 km range from 2–10 × 10-3 and the vertical wind shear is between 1 and 25 m/s per 100 m.

The effect of wind shear on a puff

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1970
AbstractThis paper corrects Hall's work in the light of more complete experiments which have established that a thermal is merely a special case of a buoyant puff. The general theory, presented here, applies to any isolated buoyant or non‐buoyant puff in shearing surroundings of uniform potential density. This theory is then applied to the case of ...

Effects of Vertical Wind Shear

2011
The effects of vertical wind shear on convective development have been examined for decades (e.g., Pastushkov 1975; Corbosiero and Molinari 2002; Lang et al. 2007; Ueno 2007). The delayed initiation of convection is associated with a strong vertical wind shear (e.g., Xu et al. 1992).

Wind shears in the meteor zone

Planetary and Space Science, 1968
Abstract Records of meteor drifts obtained during the I.Q.S.Y. with the radio-meteor technique have been used to resolve wind shears in the 80–100-km region of the upper atmosphere. Some theoretical aspects relevant to the technique of observation are being dealt with and comparison is made with wind shear data obtained by different methods. Two main

Offshore Wind Shear Estimations for Wind Power Assessment

ASME 2008 2nd International Conference on Energy Sustainability, Volume 2, 2008
Appropriate wind shear estimates are extremely important when assessing any regions’ wind power resource. Wind shear is used not only to estimate wind velocity at wind turbine hub heights other than the data collection height, but also as a siting tool to compare the wind resources in different locations when wind data are not available at a consistent
