Uncertainty analysis of wind speed of wind turbine
Quality and Reliability Engineering International, 2023AbstractThe uncertainty of wind speed has a great impact on the reliability of wind turbines. However, previous studies usually used average wind speed or rated wind speed as inputs, ignoring the impact of time and space distribution on wind speed. Based on the hourly ground observation data of meteorological stations, four observation stations are ...

Neuroadaptive Variable Speed Control of Wind Turbine With Wind Speed Estimation
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2016It is difficult to measure the wind speed accurately in short term. This reveals challenges for wind turbine control, especially for maximum power point tracking with adaptive control strategies. In this paper, a genetic algorithm based support vector machine model is adopted to estimate the wind speed, using physically measurable signals, such as the ...

Wind speed estimation for wind turbine control
2012 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications, 2012In the literature, proposed control strategies for the efficiency of wind energy conversion systems are usually based on gain scheduling PI controller using the pitch angle to control the rotor speed. Focus is then only made on power production.

Nonlinear Control of Variable Speed Wind Turbines without wind speed measurement
Proceedings of the 44th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006A nonlinear approach, for variable speed wind turbines control, is presented by considering that there is no wind speed measurement. The control objective below rated wind speed is to maximize the extracted energy from the wind while reducing mechanical loads. The existing control techniques do not take into account the dynamical aspect of the wind and

Robust Wind Speed Estimation and Control of Variable Speed Wind Turbines
Asian Journal of Control, 2018AbstractIn this work, a robust control scheme for variable speed wind turbine system that incorporates a doubly feed induction generator is described. The sliding mode controller is designed in order to track the optimum wind turbine speed value that produces the maximum power extraction for different wind speed values.

Wind Speed Forecasting in Wind Farm
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014Artificial neural network method was used to forecast the wind speed, and two wind speed forecasting models were built based on BP and RBF neural network methods. 24 hours continuous wind speed forecast was conducted for a single wind turbine in wind farm. The results show that the models built are reasonable and have high prediction accuracy.

Under high wind speed conditions breaking waves disrupt the air-sea interface producing a two-phase zone—air bubbles in water and sea spray in air. This mixed-phase environment changes the regime of air-sea interaction. In this chapter, after reviewing dynamics of air-bubbles and sea spray droplets in detail, the reader is exposed to the idea that ...

Wind speed estimation based variable speed wind power generation
IECON '98. Proceedings of the 24th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (Cat. No.98CH36200), 2002Significant variation of the resource kinetic energy, in the form of wind speed, results in a substantially reduced energy capture in a fixed speed wind turbine. In order to increase the wind energy capture in the turbine, variable speed generation (VSG) strategies have been proposed and implemented.

Effects of wind direction, wind speed and travel speed on spray deposition
Pesticide Science, 1993AbstractDeposition variability from a conventional field sprayer, and effects of wind and travel speed were measured by collecting on small artificial targets in the swath. Whilst deposition on 0.1‐m2 plots varied by a factor of 3, deposition on single vertical targets typically varied by a factor of 10 and on horizontal targets by a factor of 6 ...

Equivalent Speed and Equivalent Power of the Wind Systems that Works at Variable Wind Speed
2015This paper presents an analysis of the dynamics of the wind systems that work at variable wind speeds. This analysis is based on numerical simulations that use the motion equation. In this paper, usual mathematical models of both wind turbine and permanent magnet synchronous generator are used. Based on the measurements of both wind speed and generator
