Wind Speed Forecasting

open access: yes, 2009
This paper aims at providing a general class of stochastic models for hourly average wind speed time series taking into account all the main features of wind speed data, namely autocorrelation, non-Gaussian distribution, seasonal and diurnal nonstationarity.

Wind Speed Forecasting in Wind Farm

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Artificial neural network method was used to forecast the wind speed, and two wind speed forecasting models were built based on BP and RBF neural network methods. 24 hours continuous wind speed forecast was conducted for a single wind turbine in wind farm. The results show that the models built are reasonable and have high prediction accuracy.

Application of NNT in wind speed forecasting

The 2010 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN), 2010
In this paper several architectures of neural network multilayer artificial are used to forecast mean daily wind speed at a target station. For this purpose, meteorological variables of reference stations are chosen as exogenous inputs. The mean daily wind speed and direction of 88 measuring stations, from 2005 to 2008 were used. From these stations we

Wind speed forecasting with missing values

2017 Seventh International Conference on Information Science and Technology (ICIST), 2017
In this study, a new short term wind speed fore-casting approach, which uses long term past observations, is proposed. The performance assessment of the wind speed forecasting framework is carried out using real data from meteorological stations in Marmara region of Turkey. The data sets are not complete due to equipment failures. The proposed approach

Bidding Wind Energy Exploiting Wind Speed Forecasts

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2016
In this paper, we address the problem of determining the optimal day-ahead generation profile for a wind power producer by exploiting wind speed forecasts provided by a meteorological service. In the considered framework, the wind power producer is called to take part in the responsibility of system operation by providing day-ahead generation profiles ...

Wind speed forecasting using a portfolio of forecasters

Renewable Energy, 2014
This contribution presents the application of a portfolio of forecasters to the problem of wind speed forecasting. This portfolio is created using a single time series and it is based on a number of time series characteristics, previously proposed, and a set of novel time series features.

Research of Wind Speed and Wind Power Forecasting

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Wind power has entered a rapid progress stage. Due to the intermittency of wind energy and the non-linearity of power system, there exist many uncertain variables which should be considered in the wind power prediction. Accurate wind power forecastings are beneficial for wind plant operators, utility operators, and utility customers.

Improvement of short-term forecast for wind speed

Proceedings of 2012 IEEE International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics, 2012
This paper presents a new type of linear regression model called sparse linear regression (SLR) model for short-term wind speed forecasting. Modifications are applied to the SLR model and some other variant models are proposed. Experiments are carried out on real wind farm history recording data.

Wind speed forecasting using genetic programming

2013 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation, 2013
This contribution presents the application of genetic programming to the problem of time series forecasting. This forecast technique is applied to wind speed time series. The results obtained from the forecasting are used to determine the power generation capacity of a fixed-speed wind turbine, which includes a squirrel cage induction generator.
